I can't see how. They are sending my friend's kids home with hours of homework in third grade and so believe it.
How many Americans can afford to homeschool? Most Americans require two incomes to maintain a middle class lifestyle.
Give me a break! At the peak of our homeschooling we were a family of seven and lived on one income in a very nice upper middle class subdivision. You are what you decide to be as far as economics go. We made the decision long ago to live on my income as we felt it was more important for our children to have a good home education than it was for us to keep up with the Jones family. We attended the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University and as far as money goes, we are heads and shoulders above the rest. You just have to do it and leave it in God's hands. He will manage it for you.
Obviously since you live on the opposite side of the country from me things are different.
The guidelines for homework in this district are very strict about how much homework is permissible per grade up through 5th grade (I haven't seen the middle school guidlines) and punitive homework is not permitted. My dauaghter has a bit more homework than some of her classmates because she is in 2 grades at one time - but the lower grade reading/spelling home work is not expected.
The rule is 10 minutes per grade for time for homework. Mine is doing 1st (10 mins) and 2nd (20mins) but the teachers work together and so the most she should be doing is 20 minutes - but her choosing to not finish things in class and fuss with doing it at home, it takes longer. But she also never has "homework" everynight and very rarely on the weekend - and those are usually family projects.
One letter, from one parent, in one school district can not a generalization make.............and I know you understand this fact.
God Bless you and your wife.
Homeschooling is not for us, so we found a good school district and moved to it, and we're very happy.
We are very far from affluent, but I'm sitting outside when the school bus shows up every afternoon, and am here if school is delayed or canelled because of weather and when there is no school. Family dinner at the dining room table (almost) every night...........sort of like when my husband and I grew up.
Good. I wont lobby my congressman to supply aid to homeschoolers - which I used to support until your post told me that such a financial burden for homeschooling does not exist.

Any aid from congress comes with strings. We DO NOT want those strings. You might, but leave me out of it. The less government control the better. I won't bore you with all the success stories, but suffice to say we have one daughter who is attending Graduate School on a full scholarship after graduating Suma Cum Laude this last spring. All done without government help.
Even better. Homeschooling? Not with my tax dollars.
We don't need aid. We need the money that was in our pockets to start with......before it was impressed into the service of a worse than useless public school system. Also, did you read my comments? Most homeschoolers are "NOT AFFLUENT."

You don't want to pay school tax if you homeschool? Pipedream.
