Dear Paul, in light of the fact that you have been wrong with alarming regularity, what are the chances that your most recent ruminations are true?

The question is not just how much of a nine-tenner Krugman is. His numbers are legion. The larger question is why a major newspaper, crypto-Stalinist though it may be, would hire someone as transparently deluded as this, er, person. Do they enjoy a falling subscribership this much?

I'd say the Times is just as deluded as Krugman. I saw Maureen Dowd on the same program a bit later in schedule, and there really is no significant difference between her and Krugman. They represent the editorial view of the Times. There was a quote made public this week by ex-editor Howell Raines that was entirely over the top. These people are extremists.

By the way, I did a Google search for nine-tenner and found some references but am not sure what it means. Can you elucidate?
