The famous and the infamous out in La La Land are crying in their lattes over last week's election results. Therapists down in Florida have reported a huge increase in everyday Liberal patients in Florida so upset over the results; they've already termed the phenomenon, P.E.S.T.

P.E.S.T. now appears to have a foothold in Hollywood. It appears the star of Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Vince D'Onofrio, has already succumbed to the ailment, as he apparently fainted on the set in despair over the election and the mandate from his bosses to refrain from political discussions during work hours.

Barbra Streisand (web site) who famously misquoted Shakespeare in an attempt to skewer President Bush earlier this year, has now used statements from Thomas Jefferson when he was John Adam's vice president to basically state, that this evil (Bush's 2nd term) will pass.

Of course, Jefferson was speaking about the unconstitutional alien and sedition acts of 1796 that eventually led to their demise and his ascension as president in 1800. But never mind, we'll let her continue to ramble and use quotes out of context if it helps her get over her case of P.E.S.T.

After all, we are the Party of compassionate conservatism, eh?

And of course, Madonna has weighed in and requested an end to the war in Iraq and removal of all our troops. Madonna is receiving her therapy from the Kaballah rabbis, no pricy therapist for her, she just hands over her "contributions" to the Center and gets the therapy for free, I suppose.

Michael Moore....his case of P.E.S.T. is so severe, relocation to Canada or France may be the only way for him to heal and escape "Jesusland."

I used to like Richard Gere....Susan Sarandon...Linda Ronstadt.....the Dixie Chicks......Madonna (sometimes) etc...etc...

But these days... I can't see buying a movie ticket, no matter how good the movie looks, or a CD no matter how good the song sounds, if I have seen these elitist, psudo-intellectuals spout their hate and bile in public.

How much of an intellectual are you when you anger at least half of your prospective audience?

I guess they have decided they don't need sales, or another mansion, or plane, or future offers from movie studios.

Someday they won't be marketable.

I guess that's when they'll blame the religious right and Republicans, when all they can get are Depends commercials.

We'll be home, safe in the bosom of our family watching "The Green Berets", "Gone with the Wind", "Mr. Roberts" and countless other films starring true Hollywood-Heroes who knew about sacrifice and honor and were on our side the last time this country faced destruction by those intent on killing us, oakey dokey? Cool, man.

This is the gist of the entire argument about why celebrities should keep their mouths shut. I have asked this question many times but have never gotten a good answer. If I angered half of the people who paid my salary, would I still have a job? Unlikely.

The answer to your question -- if I understand it correctly -- is that press angentry (aka publicity) relies on giving your client a timely topic to discuss besides the product they are contractually bound to shill. This has usually taken the form of charities or hobbies. From there it was a short jump to politics -- a trend that began in the 1980s. From there the celebs became "politically aware" and that's pretty much the mess we have today.

I remember that Julia Roberts actually said some months back, that Republicans were stupid. Even Fox&Friends commented on how she had just alienated half her audience.

Guess she's not such a pretty woman after all.

Thank you. I guess the smartest celebrities and the ones worthy of respect are the ones that stick with their hobbies and charities and stay quiet about subjects that are so inflammatory.

Exactly right. There are several movies that I absolutely love and watch them every time they are on tv: Pretty Woman, Ghost and several others. I can't bring myself to watch them anymore and I would never purchase them. I feel sure there are lots more people out there that feel as I do.

I wish those morons hadn't spoiled this guilty pleasure of mine.

They don't know how to act like real men, so they try looking like the "marlboro" man by not shaving.

Something about girly-men that is just so pathetic...I can see them all sitting in the salon with the little caps on getting their hair highlighted.

Having gone to high school with her(she was a sophomore when I graduated), I can honestly say that she was NEVER such a pretty woman.

He's just po'd because Jane Mansfield's daughter has taken over as star.

Uh, that would be another show that Mariska Hargitay is on. Special Victim's Unit, not Criminal Intent. I know they all sort of look and sound alike after awhile, but if you're going to blast him for being jealous of a costar, make sure it's actually a costar.

I despise his politics, but he's (in my opinion) a fairly good actor. He played Private Pyle (the one who blew his head off on the john) in Full Metal Jacket, among about 50 other movies, most of them with big name costars and directors. I can't watch him now because the character is all twitchy and gaspy, but it's the character, not the actor that they supposedly belong to.

There are quite a few, they just aren't as noisy as the others. For instance, DeNiro, I believe, spoke out briefly for the dems, then retreated back into DeNiro-land. I can't remember Al Pacino ever voicing a political view. same goes for a bunch of others.

Also, the thing is, these people work in "the arts." And by tradition and inclination, 99% of them will be liberals. Keep in mind that the business of "the arts" creates lifestyles far removed from the average citizen. The pressures are different, the day to day life is different, and the required skill set is much, much different.
