Of course this begs the question of what constitutes an "Imam".
Last I heard the only requirement for being an Imam was having two other people agree that you are one. No study is needed, no credentials are issued, and the "Religion of Peace" has no structural heirarchy, no line of authority, no centerally accepted interpretations of the Koran.
It is what ever the Imam wants it to be.
That would of course depend on the meaning of "is"
