REDWOOD CITY, Calif.

A California jury has the option of finding Scott Peterson not guilty or convicting him of first- or second-degree murder in the death of his pregnant wife.

A first-degree conviction carries the death penalty or life without parole. It would mean the jury found Peterson planned the killing.

A second-degree murder conviction doesn't require a finding of planning and carries a sentence of 15 years to life for each count.

The verdict is due at 4 p-m Eastern time.

Yes, I know. I'm just saying I doubt the verdict will be read at 4:00. Just because it's due at 4:00, doesn't mean we'll know exactly at 4:00.
