The White House, seeking to take advantage of the diplomatic opening created by Yasser Arafat's death, is prepared to consider a British proposal that President Bush appoint a special Middle East envoy to shepherd the peace process, administration officials said yesterday.

I disagree. Every time there have been peace negotiations with the Palestinians, Israel gets scr*wed. Arafat or no Arafat, I think the US and Britain should back off and only get involved if requested.
Israel knows that peace is its best interest and shouldn't be pressured into some agreement that could compromise the safety of its citizens. Let's not repeat the same mistakes over again.
