Arafat was a corrupt man with a cause that had some merit to it---Palestinian statehood

If Arafat wanted Palestinian statehood he would accepted the Barak/Clinton deal -- an incredible deal (for the Palestinians) that's never likely to be presented again. This rejection led rational people to conclude that Arafat didn't want either peace or a Palestinian state (unless it was built upon the dead bodies of every Jew in Israel), but a perpetual state of war.

Merit to his cause? Only if one sympathizes with terrorists.

__It's hard to say what the deal
was...according to Richard Ben Cramer, it involved dividing the West Bank into 3 regions all separated by Israeli-controlled
spaces...Arafat could never accept that..that was occupation in another form

__I said Arafat was corrupt...but his cause wasn't...which is why he differs from Saddam Hussein...he was a failure,,,he could have become a statesman...but he couldnt handle it and reverted to his old ways...

The cause of a Palestinian state for a stateless group of people is supported by President Bush.
