"Look, we made a terrible mistake."

Sorry Bob. Bill Buckner made a terrible mistake.

What SeeBS and Dan Rather did was willfully and with malice aforethought, lie and knowingly present false and doctored eveidence to support a story that was aimed at influencing a Presidential election.

Rather should consider himself lucky if he is only fired.

Absolutely right. The fraud was exposed within days and CBS should have taken its role of guardian of the public trust to heart. It did not, apparently in the thrall of Rather and his surrogates. For this reason alone, CBS is not permitted in this house, and I have made sure to make the anti-CBS case to all my co-workers and friends. My kids get it, too. CBS is finished as a news organization.

P.S. I do not recall any kind of Rather apology that was meaningful. It was of the "sorry we got fooled" variety, not the "I am sorry I participated" kind.
