Yes, it is, and I value a woman's right to choose what she does with her body over the rights of a fetus. Sorry, but I wasn't ordered to go to church as a child and brainwashed on this issue. We went to all sorts of churches when I was young, and were allowed to choose which, if any, we wanted to go to. I chose to go fishing on Sunday, becoming an Icthypaleon.

Interesting perspective, given the fact that the fetus is an individual with rights as well.

You no doubt realize that morality exists regardless of whether one is a religious person. One need not attend church every Sunday to recognize that the right to life is a prerequisite for maintaining any society.

The fetus is human and has the same rights as any other human being. Either that, the woman is carrying another species, or the "fetus" has fewer rights under the law. Hmm.. didn't we once fight a civil war over that kind of thing?

Same here- if you think everyone who's pro-life got that way because of religion you need to get out more often.

I'm a newbie/lurker and signed up just to respond to this post. Stupid? Maybe...

I am extremely passionate about this subject, maybe more so since I had a child 17 months ago. But the argument in which you (and anyone pro-"choice", I use the word loosely) support abortion is, in my eyes, baseless. The only times I would support someone who wishes to "choose" abortion is in times of rape, incest and when the mother's life is in danger. Now, if a woman doesn't have any of the previous reasons she is "choosing" abortion, she had ALREADY made a choice. That choice led to a pregnancy. This is where I get really heated! This (hypothetical) woman had already made a choice, which had consequences. She obviously didn't want to live with the consequences of her actions. Not only is this a matter of morality, it is also a matter of responsibility. Taking responsibility for ones actions!

I believe people should take responsibility for their actions. There are ways to avoid pregnancy! If a child is not wanted, then don't risk it. It’s simple.

By the way, I am not a church-goer. However, I consider myself a conservative. You don't have to go to church to have morals.
