The south that is the base of the republican party would never go for a guy like him.

Evidently Republicans in North Carolina don't agree. The successful Republican candidate, Burr, had Giuliani TV ads endorsing him big time.

Giving an endorsement for a person running for office is vastly different than being the person who will be president for the next four years.

By your thinking, anyone who makes an endorsement for a candidate that wins would be a good candidate for president.
