I always thought that Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" in "Apocolypse Now" was symbolically calling the US troops a bunch of NAZI's. The reason is the obvious love that Hitler had of Wagner's music and anti-semetism and the fact many Jews went to their deaths in gas chambers and ovens with Wagner blaring over the loud speakers.
I am not overcome with joy that we would be playing Wagner... if anything the Arabs would love to hear music from someone who equally hated the Jews.
Well, you can always do the Elmer Fudd Remix of "Ride of the Valkyries."
"Kill the WAB-bit, kill the WAB-bit..."
I rather doubt that the camel-molesters will take any comfort in the fact that Wagner was a favorite of the Third Reich.
Does it get any better than this??!!
Wagner's compositions predated Nazism, and were pre-empted by it...I do not think it is any different than the William Tell Overature being used for the Lone Ranger theme, or Gieg's "Death of Asa" being used in Soylent Green, or the Blue Danube Waltz being used in Kubrik's 2001", or "Bolero" being used as the theme of "10".
True, Hitler was big into Norse mythology, the Thule Society, and all, but that was HIS problem, not Wagner's, though the support of him by Wagner's widow could have been explained in many different ways.
Dude, you are reading waaay too much symbolism into "Ride of the Valkyryes" Apocolypse Now.
An overwhelming majority of folks know the tune but haven't a clue as to its origin. Like a guy said earlier, isn't that Bugs Bunny music?
"I always thought that Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" in "Apocolypse Now" was symbolically calling the US troops a bunch of NAZI's"
Because Hitler liked Wagner does not make Wagner's music anti-semetic. Any more than Atomic Bombs would be Jewish.
E=Mc2 is a Jewish equation?
It's good to seperate reality from emotion - subjective from objective. I understand where you are comming from. However in the end it's just sound (that stirs emotions) but just sound - not Nazi sound - just sound.
Einstein was a Jew. Atomic Bombs don't care. They just work according to the laws of physics.
You're overthinking this. It's the rythem of war for that particular war. It's also a tribute to the Vietnam vets.
