Rural localities (mine, for instance) do just that sort of organizing with little or no funding.

Additionally, most in the rural communities are ex-service members. I don't know where you get the "mob" idea...reading fiction, maybe.

There most certainly is a network in each area of my extremely rural county, there is an excellent communication infrastructure, and our sheriff, a seasoned adult -- not to mention Republican -- is no idiot in spite of urban preconceptions.

I know of very few families that don't have night vision goggles, and none who are unarmed. Most are excellent shots, including the women and girls.

I can see a mob in a city, maybe, but not here in my county, or any of the surrounding counties for that matter.

I'm guessing you live in an urban or suburban area.

In the suburbs, I'm picturing the Moms in their Suburbans driving straight through the front door...

JA, I think you're missing the point. ORGANIZING a counter-assault against an enemy that is homicidal, suicidal, fortified, disciplined and willing to kill small children is going to be almost impossible.

That doesn't mean it can't be done, but the reality of an actual situation like Beslan is FAR different from Sunday afternoon at the range.

There are exceptions, but when armed parents start showing up in the parking lot of most schools, including in rural areas, the cops are likely to try to stop them.

If the tangos shoot a child or teacher in the head in front of a window for the whole world to see (which they will do) the situation will change again, for the worse.

Unless you are on-scene and armed when the jihadists show up (the best time to counterattack is immediately after an attack), the idea that you and your neighbors will be dropping bad guys with your AR-15's, while heroic, is very unrealistic.

BTW, I live in a rural area, own many weapons, am ex-military (infantry) and I don't read fiction.

Your account of how "red fly-over" country has prepared indeed is heartening.

Accordingly, I must observe that your biggest challenge would be to decisively take care of business (which includes the burying the bullet-riddled bodies of the murdering Islamofacist vermin in the mud of pigsties throughout your jurisdiction) before the FBI's fabled "counter-terrorism" and "hostage rescue" teams or some other SWAT-holes (SWAT = Safer With A Terrorist) show up to f#!$ things up beyond all repair and redemption -- or wait and watch while they hold you at bay or arrest you while your children are being slaughtered.

Perhaps the best thing you could do would be to hold them off so that you could rescue your children and save the taxpayers (you and me) millions in trials and incarceration for the goblins.

I dare say that I would be among the first of the FReepers who would rally around and gather money, public outrage, and other lawful resources should you, in the cruelest of ironies, become defendants in trials that certainly would be venued out of your communities..... Remember Waco, Ruby Ridge, and Columbine......
