Phil Bredesen is a pleasant improvement over RINO Don Taxquist. The Democrats should nominate him for President in 2008 but they won't. They seem to like him down in Tennessee for the way he's kept government spending and taxes in check.
You might want to ask folks who lived in Nashville during his 8 year Reign of Taxes about that. My parents' property taxes almost tripled during his tenure, largely to pay for Pharoah Phil's monuments to himself, i.e. a huge new library in one of the most inaccessable parts of downtown; a new football stadium for his buddy Bud Adams; an arena for a nonexistant NBA franchise, a short-lived arena football team, and a locked-out NHL team which may not even exist if a talked-about league contraction occurs; and a new taxpayer-funded facility for the Country Music Hall of Fame (why couldn't one of the most successful industries in town finance their own HOF?).
Meanwhile, Mon and Dad got a new yellow line down the middle of the road and the city came out and screwed up the drainage ditch that Dad and I spent years shaping up so we could cut it with the riding mower.
Keeping government spending and taxes in check? Nope, he's just running for reelection. He's learned the game well.
