Milaukee radio talk show host Charles Sykes updated listeners this morning on the organized attacks from the left to silence Mark Belling, a Milwaukee conservative talk radio host and competitor of Sykes.
Belling has been suspended for the last two days from doing his popular talk show in Milwaukee, The Mark Belling Late Afternoon Show. The suspension stems from Belling's use of the term "wetbacks" to describe illegal alien voters.
The wetback slur prompted liberal groups from all over Milwaukee to demand that Belling be fired. The SILENCE BELLING MOVEMENT is being led by all the usual left wing suspects, including Latino newspaper publisher Victor Huyke, and Robert Miranda, a local leftie ne'er-do-well complainer.
Yesterday on Sykes' show, Latino newspaper publisher Victor Huyke, one of the leaders of the movement to have Belling fired for uttering a slur, uttered one himself. Huyke told Sykes on the air that Milwaukee Latinos would not be treated "like a retarded kid sitting in the corner."
Today, Sykes read a letter of apology from Huyke, who stated that he sincerely was sorry for using the term "retarded" to describe the mentally challenged.
Sykes also read excerpts from an article critical of Belling written by another leader of the SILENCE BELLING MOVEMENT, Robert Miranda, who wrote the following article comparing Belling to Hitler:

Sykes also referred to an email he received from a Shorewood man, a counter-protester at a SILENCE BELLING MOVEMENT rally. At the rally, the coutner-prtester was called a "Klansman" and a "Nazi" by Mr. Miranda.
Sykes asked listeners rhetorically: Is the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel going to mention the Huyke slur? And how is comparing Belling to Hitler, and calling Belling supporters "Nazis," not hate speech?
Wetback is not a racial or ethnic slur. It refers to anyone who entered the country illegal through the southern border. It's origins come from illegal aliens wading across the Rio Grande river. The most successful immigration enforcement program ever - I believe it was done during the Eisenhower Administration - was called "Operation Wetback". Belling just got Lotted.
I think Mark made a big mistake in using the term "wetback".
Having said that, I know for a fact that many in Miwaukee were waiting to pounce on any chance to get him off the air.
I am pleased to hear Charlie is basically supporting his rival. After all, to be conservative is to be fairminded.
Hellloooooo
There is nothing wrong with Spanish language radio programs.
Good grief, quit your crying.
Because Belling's show is on the same station that airs Rush, I'm sure. Sykes is on a different station.
You may want to ping others. From the Freebelling website:
"Tune into channel 18 news Friday night at 9pm for a scheduled interview regarding our cause."

Please include me on the ping list please.
Thanks!
You sound like a nice tolerant liberal. My point is you assimiliate into a culture. My grandparents did when they came here; my parents, aunts and uncles were taught to speak English, that that was the only way to get ahead. My point is they refuse to assimilate into the American culture, and it does build resentment.
Thanks Steve. Will you be there?
I most certainly do not.
LOL
(I'm sure many reading your note are having a good chuckle over your misguided comment)
BTW, speaking Spanish does not indicate a lack of assimilation. Many speak two languages. I'm sure you boast that you can't, but some of us think it's a good thing.
don't believe so ... you missed my point to begin with. We are still an English-speaking nation. Bilingual education in the schools has been nothing short of an abject disaster. If the market wants to support that on radio or TV, I could care less. Let the free market determine that. But as an American, I am offended by a bunch of people standing in a grocery store or a Wal-Mart jabbering away in Spanish ... you are in America, speak English. This refusal to assimilate is building resentment on the part of more Americans than you realize.
By the way .. hopefully we can agree to disagree on this. It sounds like from your other posts, we have far more that we agree on than we disagree on.
Um, I didn't miss your point.
(duh)
In fact, I nailed your point and you for what it is and what you are, as evidenced by this little screed. You lie when you now proclaim you don't care if the market would support Spanish language radio programming, and your next comments just say it all.
Just quit saying people don't get your point when they do.
Fair enough.
I apologize if my last post was overly harsh.
And yes, I do support President Bush reaching out to the Hispanic community ... without the support of Hispanics, the President may very well have lost his re-election bid. And I do support his guest worker program. But right now it doesn't look like it will have enough support in Congress to pass.
Apology accepted. At least our side can agree to disagree on issues. Liberals silence anyone on their side who disagrees with the dogma (case in point, do you see any pro-life Democrats at their convention?) And I also apologize for mischaracterizing you as a "liberal" and couching comments in sarcasm.
Thanks for the info... I appreciate it!
I am curious how Rush and Belling got to know each other.
It's been a while since I've heard Belling.
WTMJ broadcasts all the way up here in Stevens Point. I can maybe get WISN when the air is clear, the sun is out, the wind is blowing out of the south, and I turn 30 degrees southeast!
I know Mark has been on Media Research Center's list of media types that judge the outrageous quotes of the year for many years. Maybe they "met" via Bozell?
When we moved back to Tucson after several years in Milwaukee I missed Sykes and Belling so much I would listen on the computer. Over time I seldom do anymore, but they are both available via the 'net, at least at one time they were...
It's my neck of the woods. Saturday at 10 am.
I try to catch snatches of Charlie when my students are in a special, or at lunch.
I really appreciate listening to Sykes and Jeff Wagner.
