Good article. I wish someone would explain what happens to the funds in a swiss bank account when the owner dies.
Carolyn
The Swiss banker buys a new chalet.
He's dead, Jim.
LOL. Those pesky Swiss.... and that is if they all agree on Arafat's Will... or whatever the PA authority will declare or approve it to be.... which in the meantime the Swiss bankers will keep the money until they figure it out (not!)
If you'd like to be on or off this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.
Ha. Good article, a good chuckle.
Yesterday CNN ran the "don't kiss my hand" clip about 5 times in a row, they just kept rolling it over and over again. Funny, they didn't explain why they were doing that or what it was supposed to convey, but it was funny.
For those who haven't seen it, Arafat is sitting with a bunch of his flunkies, he dressed in pajamas and in joyous dementia. Two guys to the left are holding his hand, and as they unclasp palms, Arafat leans over to kiss the hand of the big fat flunky who immediately reacts with horror and tries to pull away (for some reason they don't show whether Arafat's lips actually touched the victim's flesh).
So happy to see that Arafat is in such a state of happy dementia, that means whatever ailment it is, it's reached his brain and is hopefully turning him into a functioning vegetable.
Typical for the Arab terrorists...
As per my post above, The Swiss have many legal and technical excuses and difficulties to hold the funds indefinitely... LOL! (taht is, unless the Swiss would be friends with terrorists, which I think, at the bottom, they are not and would not). Add to that a major dispute with a Will-less Arafat, and I don't know how in the world those funds would get released. That Suha got 60 milion is surprizing, but, is not if Arafat was not declared dead.
You see, so long Aririfit is alive, officialy, according to corrupt French politicians who want to favor this or that person, the Swiss can let Suha dip into the joint accounts as per her mandate on such accounts (which means only a limited amount at a time per year). However, when declared dead, the spigot is shut completely.
Funny to see Suha fighting the PLO so she can keep her toe nails pink. Then again it could be a choreography. I dunno. It seems many have pulled strings for Arafat and major accounts might be in sure hands, while they are currently fighting over the crumbs. In any case, the EU will now have to decide to whom to send the money for PA subsidy.
Just who is stupid in this picture.
You are absolutely right in this.
But I am Le Tired.
Nah, he's in a semi-vegatative state which hopefully will go on for a long time. They'll keep trying fruitlessly to get the account numbers as Arafat slips into a degressively childlike state, reciting childhood nursery rhymes and burbling incoherently.
All those billions, so close but so very far away and going further down the rathole of his decaying brain every minute.
Who needs the "Dallas" reunion when you've got this?
Sad thing is, 90% of the parties in the UN operate just this way...
Last I read we were going $75 mil per year to the PLO, and the World Bank (in which we are the major shareholder) was also giving something. IIRC the EU gives more by far.
Anyone have the current numbers?

As the news of Stalin's death was kept secret for a few days while the next band of thugs consolidated their hold on power, they'll keep him artificially alive until they're ready for him to go.
I don't care if the sob died from a camel tick bite on his butt. I'm glad he's dead.
If the Scott Peterson thing ends soon, Gloria Allred can jet over there and sign up Suha as a client.
