No matter China, Soviet, Korean, or USA... or even Oz. There has been a trend over the last decade or so to give China a pass from State Dept. and CIA. While I see many advantages to keeping near China. They're expectations, and quite possibly could be completely false expectations and with the track record lately we've had.... that could blow up in our face if we miscalculate. And I see no advantage to have ambiguity concerning our allies in Japan on the matter of EEZ. Thank you for the post.

Ha! Perhaps it was the Ghost of Kerry's swiftboat - still looking for Cambodia?

No, that would be Kerry's subversive boat, not his submersible boat.

Perhaps it is Ted Kennedy's car.

Poohbah is correct. Some years ago I worked on the Navy's SURTASS project. Spent a lot of time tracking Delta IV's out in the North Atlantic. One of the first signals we'd pick up would be 50hz electrical sources.

Within a day of picking up the 50hz sources we would pick up 60hz sources, we knew who was out there with us then but NOPF would tell us "don't worry 'bout it".

The position of our subs is so secret even half the guys on the ships don't have any idea where they are!! Let alone foreign govt's, Friendly or not.

One of the great satires, year's past - National Lampoon magazine. They ran an ad with a VW bug, showing how water tight it was. Floating. Tag line : "If Ted Kennedy drove a VW, he'd be president today."

I think so, yes. India doesn't get much press. Certainly not their military. I had a friend in college, (he teaches at Oxford now) who was an aristocratic sort of fellow, from a monied and succesful family tight with the government and military in India. That's where I first picked up my respect of India's armed forces, from his stories. India simply doesn't get the respect in the international community that they feel they deserve, and in my opinion, that sort of maneuver would be important to them.

Now, it could be that their massive army and their navy complete with submarines and an aircraft carrier just doesn't generate press because the Western world simply isn't threatened by them. I think China sort of keeps two eyes on them though, and Pakistan certainl has ulcers.

Check it out:

If you poke around online you will find that their navy especially is looking for respect and a few technical "victories".

Just my $0.02US

No need to call another (long-time) FReeper, "Fool".

IMHO, we should leave name-calling to the libs...

Long time, short time...the Truth is the Truth. COMMUNIST China is an enemy of the US, Japan, Taiwan, and the entire free world.

Michael Moore's "filth", oh I'm sorry, his "film" entitled "Farenheit 911" was passed over by the Golden Globes Awards. They say it is because the Golden Globes do not consider or give awards for documentaries. Even so, rumor is Michael Moore still expects much industry public acclaim for his film. Therefore, he is presently lobbying all of his Hollywood elite lefists buddies like Barbara Streisand to ensure that his film is nominated in at least one category at the Academy Awards (The Oscars), that of best documentary. However, yesterday Bill O'Reilly on Fox News interviewed someone who said it was being bantered about in Hollywood industry papers that the Academy may be considering nominating Moore's film in the category of "Best Picture"!

Give it up! Some people simply refuse to listen to people who really know what they are talking about. I would venture to say that his six years in the USMC were spent in a drunken stupor.

Not that you need any extra weight to support your contentions, but I spent my time in the USN as diver with my last few months on the USS Shenandoah (sub tender) and I can more than confirm what you have already stated.

Cheers!

He wants them to blow more smoke up his a$$?

Brilliant, if they use carbon dioxide they could delay global warming for centuries.

There was a cartoon in the Navy Times a few years back that was titled "Submariner's Idea of Diplomacy." The skipper of the submarine is presenting a framed picture to the admiral of the host country's navy. "Here's a picture of your flagship...we took it with the attack periscope camera."

If they had found it with that plane and destroyer, they would have been able to ident its signature and know it was a friendly.

Not necessarily. ID'ing submarines from acoustic signatures is an art, and we don't tell our allies every detail of ours. "Trust, but cut the cards."
