"Well, they might be getting close to the limit - what is the maximum air speed a pumpkin can withstand without disintegration?"

These guys grow their own engineered pumpkins in secret patches. They are really into it. I went last year and had a great time. Its hard to find people like these chunkers having a better time with life.

If a growing pumpkin is encased in a (removable) plexiglas tube, it will have to grow in the shape of longish cylinder. Not quite HPBT, or BT spitzer, but coming closer.

yeah... you could grow them in long metal sleeves the same diameter as the tube so they would grow longer than wide
