I thought it was 'tradition' for each cabinet member to resign, and then the president gets to decide whether or not to accept the resignation?

That was Nixon. He demanded the resignation of every cabinet member after he won re-election.

I think that is for an "outgoing" administration, BB. Like the Toons' cabinet members in late 2000.

I think it is, but I'll bet Ashcroft means it. The left has made him such a villian.

I don't see how he needs the pressure anymore.

It is tradition, and there are several who will want to go back to private life. Apparently the President wants to do this in stages, though, rather than have a wholesale change all at once. This first-term group has been a remarkably loyal and steadfast cabinet. I hope the next group serves the President and the country as well as the first termers have.
