Dear God NO! Think of how much money it will cost to cover all statues in America that bare breasts with curtains!

LOL

Easily...the worst thing Ashcroft did.

Don Evans wanted to be Treasury Sec., but Bush said no, so he resigned. Per MSNBC (for what its worth)

I would like to see Ashcroft give a message in tongues before he walks out the door.

You won't miss Don Evans as much as the President. The two men are each other's best and closest friend outside of their families.

Ashcroft's letter of resignation was dated 11/2. Had read here on FR some speculation re Hatch, Pryor, Rudy, the deputy AG Larry ? (name escapes me at the moment...he's African-American). Any of them are fine by me.

Not likely, although I sure wouldn't mind. But Ashcroft had a serious health crisis last year and word is he wants to retire, or at least find something to do that won't be as demanding.

C'mon give it up. Ashcroft resigned for health reasons. We don't want Bush to put up someone who will Hope for bright, young, strict constructivists and Chief Justice Thomas (or Scalia).

"Glad to see Ashcroft go. He was a good senator but a bad AG who was the leader in pushing for statist measures he actually fought as senator.
I want to see a nice pro-2a AG."

Amen. When Ashcroft got offended by the breasts of a statue, I began longingly awaiting his departure. Good riddance.

Ashcroft did a good job. Quiet low key competence, as opposed to Reno's in your face corruption!

not unexpected - these have been discussed pre-election. I don't know if Ashcroft will ever get a seat on SC - that might be a tough appointment the 2nd time through the process. Many patriotic members of that worthless debating club called the Senate that despise JA and the Patriot Act, and his position on Guantanamo Bay and the "detainees".

I vote Greta goes for Juror #7

You've got it wrong. Chief Justice Thomas, Associate Justice Ashcroft

More like Chief Justice Scalia, Associate Justice......hmmm.....some RiNO, I'm guessing. Estrada or someone like him. Pro-choice, soft on everything. Another Justice Kennedy, who can be influenced by Laurence Tribe working through the Harvard-grad SC clerks. Tribe lobbied Kennedy face-to-face when Roe vs. Wade was up for consideration -- in Vienna, doing an end-around on U.S. law if not U.S. legal ethics. Got his vote, too.

Kennedy and O'Connor swing like a rusty gate. Souter got recruited by the Dark Side at Pamela Harriman's social soiree's, turned into a Thurgood Marshall clone.

Until I see it and have to eat my words, I'll warrant that Castle Bush couldn't nominate a conservative, strict-constructionist justice to save their lives. It just isn't in them.

I love John Ashcroft and I am very interested to see where he goes next.

I believe it will be where God places him.
