I was okay with taking down Specter UNTIL, I read Oliphant's piece in the Boston Globe encouraging Republicans to give Specter to boot.

Maybe a tin foil hat, but when a noted Democratic mouthpiece encourages Republicans to do something like that, I can't help but think there is a problem with the idea that the Dems hope to capitalize on.

Alan Dershowitz, Planned Parenthood, and other are fighting for Specter.

Actually, I did not read Oliphant that way. He seemed to make the case that l'affaire Specter is important to conservatives in a detached way as though he were looking at bug in a petri dish.

I think this is the essence of his observations:

"The hearings process for judges is not really at issue here; what is at issue are Specter's votes on the floor and his vigor in opposing the occasional Democratic effort to block votes on judges whose background they consider extreme. Some conservatives believe there are few limits on how far Specter will go to assure his position."
