I was watching an old movie last night with Marlene Dietrich. And I still can't figure out why she was such a box office star. Sheeeeeesh, she sang a half-dozen songs or so, and her voice is HORRIBLE.

I'm glad someone else noticed that.

I never could figure out the appeal of Greta Garbo, either.

Judy Garland could SING, Marlene Dietrich could NOT.

I was watching an old movie last night with Marlene Dietrich. And I still can't figure out why she was such a box office star.

My understanding of this has always been that she must somehow appeal to men who like their women to seem like men in drag. There must be a lot of these guys around and a lot of them are (or were) German.
