Last year, he was featured in a Times series about lawmakers whose relatives or their firms received hundreds of thousands of dollars in lobbying and consulting fees from business corporations, trade groups and other special interests that the senators helped in Congress.

In Reid's case, nearly every major industry in Nevada — from gambling to gold mining to real estate development — hired one of his sons or his son-in-law for lobbying or legal work. And Reid has a long record of supporting and protecting those interests in his home state.

Lest anyone forget, Reid stole his 1998 re-election, winning by a couple of hundred votes and typically, the pubbies failed to file a challenge.

Voter fraud, family members on the take from gambling interests---Reid is surely a new democrat.

I too think the battle will be waged on the "parliamentary infighting" front. As I recall, Frist told us that he didn't have the 51 votes to change the parliamentary rules that cover the filibustering of judicial nominations to a simple majority. This was presumably due to the RINOs voting with the Dems although I never heard Frist name names.

Well he has the votes now and I expect him to use them and not wait until February. It should be his first action when the new Congress convenes.

Yes, except Bush already tried that and so did Trent Lott when he became Majority leader. Bush got stabbed in the back and Lott got the ole 'switcheroo' from Daschle - and on more than one occasion. So they had their chance and showed their true colors.

Highly unlikely we get +5 in '06. Too many well established RAT candidates in blue states. Unless several of them retire, it will be very tough to beat them.

However, if we can gain one or two in '06, we may be able to get 60+ in '08.
