Giant flag set on fire in West Knox County

A West Knox County business owner arrived to work Saturday morning to find his giant American flag burned.

David Hayes says the flag outside his carpet store is one of the recognizable symbols in an area known as Patriot's Corner.

He says police looked for whoever set it on fire, but didn't find anyone.

The 25-foot by 40-foot flag costs around $5,000 but Hayes says it's not the money that's got him upset.

"I thought it had to be some sick person who might light a flag and put it afire for no reason at all," says Hayes. "It's somebody who really didn't have any respect for the flag anymore."

Hayes says he's got another flag ready to go and it will fly high on Monday after the flag poll is cleaned up.

I would love to know how the police "looked". I wonder if they had a certain type of match or lighter to question suspects about. This statement seems to be saying, "Well Capt. Bob, I don't see anybody 'round here. How about you?".
