The big question after Tuesday was: will it just be more of the same in George W Bush's second term, or will there be a change of tone? And apparently it's the latter. The great European thinkers have decided that instead of doing another four years of lame Bush-is-a-moron cracks they're going to do four years of lame Americans-are-morons cracks. Inaugurating the new second-term outreach was Brian Reade in the Daily Mirror, who attributed the President's victory to: "The self-righteous, gun-totin', military-lovin', sister-marryin', abortion-hatin', gay-loathin', foreigner-despisin', non-passport-ownin' rednecks, who believe God gave America the biggest dick in the world so it could urinate on the rest of us and make their land 'free and strong'."
Well, that's certainly why I supported Bush, but I'm not sure it entirely accounts for the other 59,459,765. Forty five per cent of Hispanics voted for the President, as did 25 per cent of Jews, and 23 per cent of gays. And this coalition of common-or-garden rednecks, Hispanic rednecks, sinister Zionist rednecks, and lesbian rednecks who enjoy hitting on their gay-loathin' sisters expanded its share of the vote across the entire country not just in the Bush states but in the Kerry states, too.
In all but six states, the Republican vote went up: the urinating rednecks have increased their number not just in Texas and Mississippi but in Massachusetts and California, both of which have Republican governors. You can drive from coast to coast across the middle of the country and never pass through a single county that voted for John Kerry: it's one continuous cascade of self-righteous urine from sea to shining sea. States that were swing states in 2000

He's also a columnist for the Irish Times. (It's a liberal newspaper...i think they hire Steyn, to show 'balance')
LOL
Man, I WISH I had this man's thought processes!
Wanna know what I love about this?
BJ Kelly lives in Killiney. Dublin's very wealthy, elitist area.
Mark Steyn couldn't have picked a better person to parody. The effete elitist liberals of Killiney have nothing in common with the ordinary working/middle classes. They are out of touch, and aloof.
Mark Steyn is brilliant!
He can recognise a champagne socialist, a limousine liberal from 100 paces.
Good job!
Good analysis.
You can't ask quidnunc to post the whole article.
You must realize
he is morally superior to the rest of us
and we can't request him to besmirch his own virtue
by taking the risk of violating a copyright
even when the author has it posted himself
on his own website.
Fortunately
there now is a crew of people
who do the dirty work for him
reposting the whole thing
after he has alerted them to it.
With regard to the statement about Europeans hating the USA because of Iraq.....it goes back much further than that.
Actually, the French resented the USA as troops poured into that country in WWII. Most of them actually sympathized with Germany.
The French have fought us tooth and nail in the UN since its establishment.
The poisoning of the rest of the Europeans minds by France has taken years to develop but it looks like it has finally hatched.
"Well, that's certainly why I supported Bush,"
LOL ping!
Not hopeless at all. There are more and more successful black business people who vote republican.
I want to have a beer with this bloke! LOL!
I think Bush is going to give Chirac a call and tell him Americans totally despise France and they need to talk.
A few years back I tried to enlighten a few folks as to just how big an enemy our allies really are, I'm so glad that it has become common knowledge.
Formerly Europe used the excuse that their hate America stance was just a ploy to court renegade nations and bring them around to democracy. Now that hypocricy has been exposed as a bare faced lie.
What they want is control of the USofA, and it's wealth and power, by hook or crook, via the U.N.'s agenda 21 that has infected city after city, their U.N. biospheres, to Europe's desire to have our military at it's beck and call.
I'll never forget the U.N.'s gall in saying, and I quote, "Due to their SUV's, and consumption, Americans have forfeited their right to control their natural resources, someone had to take charge". Can you imagine if Kerry had won? Can you imagine ever allowing another democrat to sit in the oval office?
Can you imagine being under the KOYTO treaty, or ordinary citizens brought up before the ICC court for hate speech? The Demonrat party needs to be gone forever.
Hmmm, well I'm not self-righteous, I do tote guns, I'm going in the military, love my sister but not in that way, I despise abortion in all but a few circumstances, I have gay friends..don't approve the lifestyle though, I like foreigners...not when they try to tell me what to do though, I have a passport, not a redneck, Don't know about God giving "America the biggest dick" but his hand has sure helped us get where we are.
Italy. The home of Rome. Sad.

I vote that we elevate Mark to hero status, require a photo (just like Ann, Michelle and Laura threads, hint-hint photo experts). I am sure that you are aware that he is on Hugh Hewitt every week...talking with that amazing accent.
Oh, and we could quit picking on quidnunc (unless this would get me in trouble on Pokey's ping list, then, nevermind).
I peaked at BET.com last night and the chart they showed, indicated an increase from 9% to 16%.I didn't double check to see who did their poll. I'm trying to figure out where I can find another poll to verify it.
Just because I was in love with a bearded Canuck conservative that looked like Mark Steyn doesn't mean that I think he's a hottie!! *LOL*
Of course, I love both their minds! But then I'm a sucker for geeks, and conservative male columnists! *LOL*
LOL, so I have lowered the thread to the level of "true confessions." My first choice would be to have his column brought to us in audio. Have you heard his voice? This is all only good because he is the ultimate conservative columnist. I am really only after his mind.
I dunno... the Brits who fought the Germans in the autumn of 1940 can't exactly be called "lily-livered". Nor can those Brits who crossed the Channel with us and landed on Gold, Juno, and Sword.
Their sons and daughters wrought a good deal of negative change in post-war Britain, but I wouldn't use lily-livered as a description of The Few, the Home Guard, the survivors of the Blitz, the Desert Rats, or the men who stormed ashore on 6 JUN 44.
Mark, where have you been all my life??
Sigh... he turns a phrase prettier than a gymnast on the high bar.
