This is because of American agricultural policy. The price of cane sugar is controlled under obsolete laws left over from the New Deal. It costs five times more than corn syrup, swill which is fit only for feeding hogs.

Corn syrup is mostly fast-digesting fructose and is a major cause of obesity.

In Mexico and other countries, there is no such ridiculous interference in the free market, and Coke is made with sucrose (cane sugar) as God intended. Sucrose is a more complex molecule, breaks down more slowly, and tastes way better.

We need to slap the sugar and corn barons down, and demand cheap cane sugar at world-market prices.

There is no such thing as "world-market prices".
The truth is, ALL sugar producing nations subsidize production, resulting in a global excess that is beneficial to consumers.
The "world-market price" that globalists love to hype is actually the "dump price" of this excess production.
If you eliminate sugar subsidies, the excess supply disappears, AND SO DOES THE "CHEAP" world price that you reference!

The actual result: sugar prices skyrocket as supplies are more limited. And the transnational food traders screw the consumers like OPEC princes.

And they put that corn syrup swill in just about everything: check you ingredients labels.

I no longer eat bread, but when I did I was amazed that all ready made bread has corn syrup in it.

I used to make my own bread that beat anything store bought, and my bread had no sugar or corn syrup swill--and my bread tasted much better (and my bread wasn't squishy, either).
