Brainstorming with Free Republic | 11/05/2004 | TribeMike

55 is nice but we need to move closer to 60 in the Senate.....Lord willing, some events could make it happen...

1. Ted Kennedy's liver finally gives out

2. TheRAYSa divorces Kerry and he quits to work full time on finding a new heiress....

Mitt Romney names replacements....now we're at 57...

Any other ideas?

No offense, but I wish we could refrain from stuff like thus. :-( Too DU-ish for my taste.

The only way to break a filibuster is to do it the old-fashioned way. Those who wish unlimited debate must actually debate. They must keep the Senate in session 24/7 while the filibusterers talk on and on. They can make arguments, read recipes or read from the phone directory, but they must stand and talk, not state an intention to talk.

This means shutting down all other business in the Senate until the filibuster is broken by a cloture vote or we throw in the towel.

The Democrats don't have the stomach for that kind of warfare.

It's time we go to the mattresses.

I second that.

Of course it's humor; but a joke about someone dying or getting gravely ill is something we should leave for the liberals and democrats.

We are better than that. -

Agreed, winning this election wasn't easy, and it may be our best chance at choosing judges, those congresscritters had better be UP TO the jobs we elected them to do.

You'd think they would know by now how the voters feel, but maybe we should nudge them a little....

Well the most obvious is if you are a DIM senator from a "Red State" look no further than Dacshle to see what could happen. I'm sure they are taking notice to that fact. BUT, I'm sure at the same time the liberal extremist groups will get to these same senators and threaten a liberal primary challenger. It will suck to be a moderate DIM senator when judge time comes around. Either way they lose.

All wide of the point.

Seems to be discovered again and again by the people that all that is needed, is for the Senate to, at the beginning of that congressional congress, vote that Filibustering is not available, in either part, as in Judicial nominees, or in whole, ie, no filibuster at all.

This is a straight up or down 51% vote, no filibuster is allowed.

Write your reps that you want this action taken at the seating of the next congressional session!

Thinking about it, old Teddy Roosevelt would have had the cojones for it.

BTW, so would Teddy K, and he would be hailed as a hero for it.

Absolutely. Rules is rules. It would make for great television on a selected issue and the Dem obstructionism would be revealed as the media covered: Filibuster Day 34! A barely coherent Ted Kennedy droning on and on...

The fb is a creation of the Senate itself.

They can uncreate it.

Even if Spector has an attack of honesty and switches
to the Democrat party.

Teddy's liver??? Here you go from the DFU Archives ---

MIDI - YELLOW RIVER

Poor, poor Ted…we just heard the news
Could it be that he’s had too much booze
He holds a seat that the RATS may lose
Teddy’s liver

Hey Jane Swift, dear, are you all set
You will soon get your chance, we bet
Poor Tom Daschle…his pants are all wet
Teddy’s liver

Teddy’s liver, Teddy’s liver…his doc says it is pretty bad
Teddy’s liver, Teddy’s liver…the vast right wing is feeling sad

If only there could be a way to hear from Mary Jo
We’re sure she would say it’s a tragic way to go
Poor, poor Teddy’s liver

When he’s gone, it will seem so odd
No waitress sandwich with his pal, Dodd
So raise your glass and let’s give him a nod
Teddy’s liver

When the time comes to say goodbye
We will not see one dry eye
Like Ron Brown, will Scumbag laugh and then cry
Teddy’s liver

Teddy’s liver, Teddy’s liver…his doc says it’s pretty bad
Teddy’s liver, Teddy’s liver…the vast right wing is feeling sad

If only there could be a way to hear from Mary Jo
We’re sure she would say that it’s a tragic way to go
Poor, poor Teddy’s liver

Teddy’s liver, Teddy’s liver…his doc says it’s pretty bad
Teddy’s liver, Teddy’s liver…the right wing is feeling sad

Folks, they don't need to "break" a filibuster. At the beginning of the Congress, they vote on the rules. Simply add a rule that filibusters cannot be used on Presidential nominations. The Dims will whine, but they can clearly do it. I think Lott was hinting at this the other day.

Make the opposition do a real filibuster not the faux ones the DemocRATS like and Republicans allow.
