We Were Soldiers (2002)
Mel Gibson, Greg Kinnear, Madeleine Stowe, Sam Elliott
Rating: TV-14-V , CC
Friday, November 5th @ 9pm(ET)
In a place soon to be known as The Valley of Death, in a small clearing called landing zone X-Ray, Lt. Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson) and 400 young fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons, all troopers from an elite American combat division, were surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. The ensuing battle was one of the most savage in U.S. history. We Were Soldiers Once...And Young is a tribute to the nobility of those men under fire, their common acts of uncommon valor, and their loyalty to and love for one another.

Mel is awesome. He gave an interview to National Review on why he opposed the stupid stem cell scam in Kalliefornieeah.
Mel is smart and thoughtful. He would make a good President and is much better than Arnuld. Mel also was born in upstate NY so he could run a President.
Thes are the caliber of men that POS Kerry called baby killers, etc, in his testimony to Congress in the '70's---this film should have been put on before the election so America could know what a real 'piece of trash' Kerry reallt is---he should be drummed out of Congress and put on trial as a 'traitor'

TNT-TV's last Network TV Premiere showing of "WE WERE SOLDIERS" will be airing Wednesday night, November 10, 2004, at 8pm EST - 5pm PST.
TNT-TV's website has posted an outstanding synopsis of our Battle of IA DRANG-1965 and of RANDALL WALLACE's filming of it:

.
Oooop's, make that the next to last airing of...
.."WE WERE SOLDIERS"..
...with 10:30pm EST - 7:30pm PST airing tomorrow night being its final TNT TV airing.
I've enjoyed them all.
.
I question the timing of the airing considering that abc or cbs is showing "Private Ryan" this week during the Falluja campign.
.
I believe "WE WERE SOLDIERS" is airing now in commoration of our Annual Battle of IA DRANG Alumni Reunion Conference that's held over Veterans Day Weekend in Washington, D.C.
JOE GALLOWAY & Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE (Ret.) have been kept very busy with "WE WERE SOLDIERS" promotion activities ever since the sudden death of Mrs. JULIE MOORE last April. This will be the 1st such IA DRANG Alumni Reunion Conference since her leaving us and the General's loving family.
I would call the very reverential and timely TNT TV Network Premiere airings of "WE WERE SOLDIERS" a real act of Love.
.
Isn't it the best series ever or what? I'm probably one of the few people that when I see David Schwimmer, I don't think of him as the guy from "Friends", he's Captain Sobel.

So sorry to hear that...

a recollection on Jack Smith, as well as just about the most unflinchinly
brutal recounting of Americans at arms (The Saturday Evening Post article)
that I've ever read.

.
Thank you for JACK SMITH's chiling IA DRANG Article Link.
Part of JACK SMITH's Keynote Address to us former U.S. 7th Cavalry Skytroopers at last year's IA DRANG Alumni Conference Dinner was taken directly from it.
The rest of his speech shared with us his battle against the Cancer that took him 5 months months later.
JACK SMITH was and still is a fine, fine man.
.
My hubby and I have a question...what is the red and black unit patch on Col Moore's right shoulder?.....we don't recognize it...
Thanks, I will read it...
.
Patches worn on one's right shoulder is of a unit a Soldier previously served in combat with. In this case a young Army Lt. HAL G. MOORE who served in combat during the Korean War.
.
Thanks for the pings, Ronnie.
My 18 year old nephew saw We Were Soldiers
recently.
He LOVED it.
He is a young man full of love for his
nation and proudly cast his vote, his
first vote, for President George W. Bush
in the election.
