That's too bad. I've considered San Diego as one of the more conservative cities in a state with few large conservative cities.

And she should be worried about that.

A relative who lived in Rancho Santa Fe (~ 40 mile north of San Diego) got her tan every year for 40 years.

She was dead at 62 of skin cancer.

Yep... I'm crossing San Diego off my list of places to live.

Actually, a municipal bankruptcy is possible, particularly if Donna is elected. San Diego has significant pension underfunding liabilities, unsustainable municipal union contracts, limited sources of tax revenue, and a credit rating so bad that its ability to borrow is approaching the nonexistent. The only solutions to these problems that do not involve insolvency must include tough negotiations with the unions. Donna is a tool of the unions. They were the principal sponsors of her candidacy. It may be a very interesting four years here in America's Finest City.

It is. Bush won this county easily. Two republicans split the vote and this stoner got like one third of the votes. Duke Cunningham and Duncan Hunter are congressmen from here. This stoner is a fluke. I sure hope the rest of the ballot counting puts her behind.

Why the heck don't you have a primary election to eliminate candidates from the same party?

Beats me. I dont know how it works. I was so focused on Bush winning I barely gave much thought to the mayors race. I voted for who the republican party endorsed down here.

The city is sunk if she gets in.
Think Maureen was bad? Donna will
run off business. She's a far out freakazoid

I think a recall will be started before she can
warm up her seat. Republicans stay out of the
center city because they don't want trouble, this is
what we get. The wealthy liberals in the high rise condos
and their rolls & mercedes etc are running the show here
in my Hillcrest neighborhood as downtown.

Frye, 52, who said she is extremely optimistic she will win once all the ballots are counted.

I think Kerry said the same thing...

Somebody better do something fast.
Frye is dreadful.

I am so glad I am in Mississippi,
but I really feelbadly for fellow
native San Diegans like you.

Like CA, San Diego has been invaded
by all sorts of undesirables and it's
NOT the sleepy little Navy town of our
youth. Damn shame too.

Then there should be a runoff unless someone gets over 50%.

I was listening to Roger Hedgecock today (former mayor of SD). He was talking with the City Attorney (when Roger was mayor). According to this attorney, the person in the City Clerk's office who allowed her to be a write-in candidate in the general election (without participating in the primary) may have overstepped his authority. According to the City Charter, unless she participated in the primary, she has no standing to be a write-in for the general election.

The attorney also said he believed the City should take it to court - because if it's allowed to stand as a 3-way race, then this mayor would be elected with only 1/3 of the electorate, which is against the City's regulations which requires a majority vote for a win - or 50%.

Roger interviewed the clerk who allowed Donna to sign up for the general election as a write-in .. he could not explain to Roger what City regulation would allow him to do that .. and his comment was "I guess it's a little creative".

CREATIVE ..?? The law is NOT CREATIVE!! This has to go to court and part of the solution has to be an addendum to the regulations so this idiocy cannot happen again.

Donna Frye is a typical hippie .. 60's environmentalist whacko. And you're right .. onyx .. she will surely drive business out of California. Being retired, Donna's stuff may not affect me that much .. but I'm concerned how much she will affect the cost of living here ..?? The Unions are supporting her which I'm sure gives her a lot of money. Why they are doing that .. it's just beyond me.

Remember when I told you about calling Repo headquarters
and telling them about the tons of DNC kids on the
corners pushing their agenda and I said where are the
Republicans. They couldn't be bothered. Though We are
still a Republican County it is narrowing. Folks want
to be tucked away in the burbs and don't care about the
big picture.

Thanks for all the information.
I feel a lot better now.
Roger will not sit still.
Her candidacy is bogus.
The clerk needs firing and FAST!

Out-freepin-rageous.

Yep. You're right.
Democrats will invade SD just
like they have in CA's other major cities.
Damn shame too.

Biggoted article. I'll amend the offending sentence to make it more fair and balanced.

Donna Frye, a surfer who sports long bleached blond hair and saggy boobs, and refuses to get a driver's license, is riding a wave of write-in votes for mayor that could sweep aside two graying 60-something Republicans and carry her into City Hall.

As a San Diegan, I am embarassed.

She is on the City Council. This was a run off election between the two other candidates. There is talk about a possible court case concerning this election. She should not have been a write in candidate in the run off.
