It needs to pass the state house, senate, and be signed by Granholm(D). Then get passed the federal courts.

Unfortunatly, this wasn't done when Engler was governor since he'd sign it. Granholm probably won't.

After seeing the results in Michigan on Tuesday, I asked my wife if it was possible to redraw the boundaries and make Detroit part of Ohio.

Those people are amazing. I feel so helpless that those of us in the 'burbs depend on Detroit for water. They charge us an insane amount of money, but we have to go to court to find out their funding formulae. They supported Geoffrey Fieger for Governor. Their mayor is a clown.

Take Detroit......please!

IIRC, Bush improved a bit in West Bloomfield, which is very impressive, given the fact that the township gets more and more liberal every day because Jews from Southfield keep moving out into West Bloomfield; Bush must have done much better with Jewish voters. But in the rest of the Oakland and Macomb townships, I think Bush did about the same.

The Wayne suburbs I would most like to see vote percentages for are Dearborn and Dearborn Hills, both of which have a very large Arab population. In 2000, Bush got in the low 50s in the former and in the mid-to-high 40s in the latter, and I'd like to see if the War on Terror actually drove Arabs away from the GOP as everyone assumes---I would guess that Bush's percentages didn't drop by all that much, since most Arabs in Michigan are Christian, not Muslim, and since many of them are Iraqis (especially Chaldeans) who were dancing in the streets when we toppled Saddam's regime.

Wow! That's the difference between Philly and Detroit.

Philly can still produce 100,000+ Republican votes.

Are there any whites still in Detroit?

Thanks. Why is Canton so close(compared to Plymouth which is similar)? That's three times in a row it was within 2000 or so.

Livonia, Westland, and Garden City don't surprise me. Westland is going to go even more dem with inner/outer suburb migration.

You'll never get rid of the fraud with the unions around.

Both myself and my wife were poll challengers in Washtenaw County......a precinct in Ann Arbor.

We didn't see fraud from the election workers, but there were some pretty obvious illegally (some legal that should have been illegal as well) registered voters.

We live in Northwestern Washtenaw....had not idea that our county would have been 2-1 for Kerry.

We could give Detroit to the Canucks. They get a decent hockey team (finally) and a baseball team to replace Montreal.

I am so happy that Calhoun County went Red this time around. Be interesting to see my township, when it is available.

Require current ID with address to vote.

the law allows someone to come in with an ID that doesn't match the voter roll, sign an affidavit that claims they have moved, and they vote....no challenge, no provisional ballot to check on the truthfullness.

Sick stuff.

Then unions need to be history. There has to be some way to stop the voter fraud.

Bush did 1% better than last time in West Bloomfield, although 4% better than Posthumus.

Bush won Macomb this time, unlike last time and improved himself a little in Warren, as well as the Northern Townships.

Dearborn was a butt kicking - especially since Bush won it last time. How much of that was white union members or Arab's I don't know.

Bush/Cheney 16,686 Kerry/Edwards 24,456

Doesn't Dearborn have a high arab population? That would explain a little

Are there any whites still in Detroit?

Some downtown and over by Wayne State University(mixed area).

Most of the other whites are city workers. They mostly lived by the Dearborn Heights Border. That area has been changing since the residency clause is no longer in effect. Most of those who lived there are bolting like no tomorrow. In most areas, the whites are leaving or died(a lot of the whites AND blacks in Detroit are elderly). My uncle retired recently and he's moving up north.

Even a lot of the blacks are moving out. Southfield is where much of the black middle class is.

Dearborn Heights

(R) G. BUSH/D. CHENEY 11,128 42.08

(D) J. KERRY/J. EDWARDS 14,902 56.35

That's more white than Dearborn, but also a union stronghold.

"Bush did 1% better than last time in West Bloomfield, although 4% better than Posthumus."

You're right, I just looked it up and in 2000 Gore carried West Bloomfield 56%-42%; I thought it had been 57%-39% or so with a higher Nader vote. But because of the township's changing demographics, doing the same in West Bloomfield in 2004 as in 2000 would have been a victory for Bush, and doing 1% better is an excellent showing.

"Dearborn was a butt kicking - especially since Bush won it last time. How much of that was white union members or Arab's I don't know.

Bush got 415 fewer votes in Dearborn than he did in 2000, and Kerry outpolled Gore by a whopping 4,356 votes (Kerry beat "Gore + Nader" by 2,669). I have to assume that the big difference was the Arab vote, but whether it was just the Muslims (many of whom had voted for Bush in 2000 because Gore had the audacity to select a Jewish runningmate) or Christian Arabs as well is a very good question. Turnout in Dearborn was quite a bit higher than in 2000, so perhaps the Imams ordered the Muslims to go out and vote.

Last time it was 51.6% Gore to 45.3% Bush, so we did worse there as well.
