Inside Politcs: Republican terrorists
The Washington Times ^ | November 5, 2004 | Greg Pierce

Posted on 11/05/2004 7:43:44 AM PST by Pfesser

Gary Wills, the liberal writer and history professor at Northwestern University, thinks that the fundamentalist Christians who ensured President Bush's re-election on Tuesday are a bunch of ignorant religious fanatics -- no different, really, than Islamic terrorists -- who have done nothing less than end the Enlightenment.

"The secular states of modern Europe do not understand the fundamentalism of the American electorate. It is not what they had experienced from this country in the past. In fact, we now resemble those nations less than we do our putative enemies," Mr. Wills said in an op-ed piece in the New York Times.

"Where else do we find fundamentalist zeal, a rage at secularity, religious intolerance, fear of and hatred for modernity? Not in France or Britain or Germany or Italy or Spain. We find it in the Muslim world, in al Qaeda, in Saddam Hussein's Sunni loyalists. Americans wonder that the rest of the world thinks us so dangerous, so single-minded, so impervious to international appeals. They fear jihad, no matter whose zeal is being expressed."

The headline on the article accurately reflected Mr. Wills' feelings: "The Day the Enlightenment Went Out."

They think we are a bunch of idiots, because to believe otherwise, they would have to admit that they are cowards.

I have to admit that I'm really enjoying watching these people come unglued.

Some of us take our faith seriously. There IS a God, there IS right and wrong and I stand by that resolutely. I also can say with confidence that those of us who believe this way have the full weight of historical evidence to support our beliefs. It's not a blind, stupid faith--it's reality.

yawn

It wasn't the Repubs that were slashing tires and fielding drive-by shootings of campaign headquarters.

Oh yeah, the parallels with Islam are shocking!

I am a woman who is college educated and I work at a well paying job.

I spend money and own property.

I buy and read anything I want.

I'm not afraid of being beaten by my husband, brothers, etc.

I have zero interest in killing Jews or "bad" Christians.

I don't want to force other to convert to Christianity.

Yeah, the similarities are really striking, all right.

I'm starting to sense that this will be the spin the Democrats will use on this election: George Bush was re-elected by a Christian Taliban, and anyone who votes Republican enlists in that army of oppression.

Sadly, it's a tactic that will resonate in certain quarters. Some people fear God more than they fear the Devil.

Whenever you see the phrase "religious right," replace it with "Moral Middle." Because the soul of this country is, and always has been, conservative and moral.

Do NOT let the Left marginalize our morality.

It was the Christian Europeans (especially the Hapsburgs) who fought off the Muslim invaders for over 1000 years at a great price in blood and treasure. Now the secular Europeans are being overwhelmed without a fight. For Mr. Wills, this is a good thing?, Cui Bono?

Gary Wills must be referring to the 'Continental' Enlightenment, which is not to be associated with the English Enlightenment, except by way of contrast.

The English Enlightenment led directly to Parliamentary government and the American Republic - the Continental Enlightenment led directly to totalitarian death-camps and genocide.

This arrogant elitist moron perfectly exemplifies the endemic problems with American collegate Academia.

His analogy defies any rational analysis. Thanks to legions of leftist demons like this in our educational establishments, American students have minimal knowledge of their own history, world history and geography as a whole and a generally inferior background in the sciences and math.

All they learn is politically correct tripe and propaganda like this.

MORE conservative College Alumni should mail back requests for contributions from their respective Alma Maters and tell them exactly why.

"I'm really enjoying watching these people come unglued"

Isn't it fun? A week ago I would have been livid reading a story like that. Now, I laugh!

What the left doesn't get is that one of the fastest growing domographic groups in this country is the evangelical Christians. This does not bode well for Democrats in coming elections unless they wake up and let God back into their party. Fortunately for our side, they aren't about to do that.

Gary Wills is a Statist who says there is no RKBA as well.

One reason I'm glad Kerry lost is that I don't want this so called 'expert' appointed to SCOTUS.

Normally a tolerant man, I really am beginning to be attacted to those who believe these kind of academiacs ought to be CANED (along with 99.9% of those hate-filled rabble rousers who make up most of DU's membership)!

Question: Will the purveyors of all of this liberal hate speech be held accountable if any of their less stable followers act out violently?

Rhetorical question, I know, but it still stands.

WHO would you rather lead your country?

A man who believes he will have to answer for his actions to a Supreme Being in the afterlife.

Or an Atheist who thinks that rules as his own moral(or lack of) standards and answers to no one?

History has given us the answer:

Lincoln, Reagan and Bush

Or Stalin, Hilter and Clinton

You decide, Mr. Wills.

America already has.....
