Why Americans Hate Democrats—A Dialogue The unteachable ignorance of the red states.
Slate ^ | 11/04/04 | Jane Smiley

Posted on 11/05/2004 5:36:53 AM PST by ClintonBeGone

The day after the election, Slate's political writers tackled the question of why the Democratic Party—which has now lost five of the past seven presidential elections and solidified its minority status in Congress—keeps losing elections. Chris Suellentrop says that John Kerry was too nuanced and technocratic, while George W. Bush offered a vision of expanding freedom around the world. William Saletan argues that Democratic candidates won't win until they again cast their policies the way Bill Clinton did, in terms of values and moral responsibility. Timothy Noah contends that none of the familiar advice to the party—move right, move left, or sit tight—seems likely to help. Slate asked a number of wise liberals to take up the question of why Americans won't vote for the Democrats. Click here to read previous entries.

Progressives have only one course of action now:

They call themselves "progressive" but they haven't changed a thing in thirty years. The same crap over and over.

"This is what happens when you make one too many trips to Starbucks before sitting down to write."

Sorry to disagree, but no amount of Starbucks could induce such an altered state. Have you considered the article may have been the result of too much bong? Too many bong hits is well known to induce a sense of wisdom while actually creating intellectual malfunction.

"The way Clintoon "cast his policies" was one of the main reasons why he failed as a president."

Absolutely. Dickie Morris just polished clinton's innate ability to stand on all sides of an issue. Something Kerry never was able to do...it might have been interesting if Kerry had hired Morris into whoring for him...

Next, they tell you that you are the best of a bad lot (humans, that is) and that as bad as you are, if you stick with them, you are among the chosen. This is flattering and reassuring, and also encourages you to imagine the terrible fates of those you envy and resent.

Is it now forever impossible to talk about values with those with whom we disagree without anger and loud voices and politicizing? Even though I know I could never abandon my principles, I'm saddened at the prospect of perpetual strife and discord. Maybe we could somehow create a forum people would agree to discuss issues with civility or some kind of structure that would optimize creativity and critical thought and de emphasize criticism, am I dreaming?

The hysterical part of this is that his reading of Rousseau is half right

Didn't he write a book about masturbation?

How can you win someone over when you call them stupid and/or treat them as though they are?

You can't. Ask Alan Keyes.

It was a actually a short essay. But Rousseau was far from being alone in the 1700's, Ben Franklin wrote teatise on farting that was wildly popular in Europe.

The peculiar part of the deal is that the humor which was fashionable in the Salons of people that are now required reading in every US college, would be denounced these days, ala Beavis and Butthead, South Park, et al.

The liberals believe that anyone who doesn't believe the same way as they do is stupid. They also project their characteristics onto others. They can't believe they were bested by stupid "W".

"That's what happened to Jimmy Carter—he asked Americans to take responsibility for their profligate ways, and promptly lost to Ronald Reagan, who told them once again that they could do anything they wanted."

Uh, not exactly. President Reagan said we could ACCOMPLISH anything we wanted to.

She cannot even cite a quote without lying.

She has to be a Democrat.

Also you do not see her using any of her money to help the less fortunate.

And these arrogant @ssholes wonder why they can't win an election.

Their arrogance is beyond belief and reality.

I suppose the good news is that 55 million Americans have evaded the ignorance-inducing machine. But 58 million have not.

I'm a proud Ph.D. bearing ignoramus. The problem with so many liberals is that they aren't as smart as they think, but they have bought into this notion that the left represents intellectually sophisticated ideas. They are not even smart enough to figure out that what they see as highly intellectual is actually hooey. Example: any utterance of Noam Chomsky. They embrace the hooey because they think it's so smart, and they so want to appear smarter than they are. They must have an inferiority complex, maybe brought on by sitting next to people like me in high school, people who grasp an idea the first time they hear it and never study (at least in high school).

The rest of this piece pretty much proves my point. Pseudo-intellectualism masking lack of critical thinking skills, used to promote the writer's own personal opinions.

Good. I love seeing articles such as this one. It proves that libs still don't get it, have no intention of trying to get it, and will blindly repeat the same mistakes in the next election cycle.

Please, Lord, keep the leftazoids so willfully blind!
