Sad to say, but Cheney's visit on Sunday energized Democratic voters to come out, and being a strong Democratic state, the local Republicans have to pay the price.

This ranks amongst the worst of our losses, along with Colorado, where we lost the majority control of the entire legislature (and I think wiped out Gov. Bill Owens's shot at the WH for good in '08). If we hadn't knocked off 1 legislative Hawaiian House incumbent to offset losing 6 members, we'd have been down to 9 out of 40. This may not bode well for Lingle's reelection chances, either, let alone her ability to accomplish legislative goals.

Hate to admit it but Ahnold probably would have energized the vote for Bush.
We had good weather on Tuesday too, so all the pro-Dem old folks were easily able to go to the polls for a bit of election year excitement.

Stupid Minnesota lost 12 seats to the dims partly because they aimed the gun at their own foot.

It could be worse. Linda Lingle's popular but her party isn't. In the islands, the Democratic machine is too much entrenched to dislodge completely after forty-five years.

More like slick willie's minions were busy manufacturing votes while everyone else was focused on the presidential campaign.
