They (hispanics) need to break 50-50 for it to be a wash, and I hope you're right that we're on our way to that.

The actual numbers go like this: 35% of Hispanics voted for Bush in 2000; 42% in 2004. That's a 7 point increase. If this trend continues, the Republicans will be near your magic number of 50%.

For verification of the positive trend, check out this thread: A major increase in Latino votes for Bush

What would be interesting to know is what the generation of immigrant breakdown is on Bush vs. Kerry voters. I would suspect that 1st generation Hispanics are least likely to vote GOP. Once the shift has maximized, it should be relatively easy from there to calculate the rate of assimilation, and thus the optimum level of immigration to maximize voting for conservative GOP candidates.

I'd also like to see polling data on the political views of Hispanics -- how conservative politically are GOP voters, will they vote for conservative state and local election candidates, how do they vote in primaries.

I don't give a flip about color. I care about our conservative Anglo-American political traditions. And Clarence Thomas is Exhibit A that you don't need to be white to defend them...

yes but.....the push from Hispanics for W came primarily from Cubans and Colombians in Florida (and a few Nicaraguense) and W's mostly rural (even indig)Mexican descended in Texas who have a favorite son thing for him (along with social conservatism).

The trends for urban Amerindian Mexicans (and that is who we are really talking about here) is not positive. Look at how most vote in Kali.

There was improvement overall but it came from mostly two expected sources.

I share Agrarian's concerns. ....not to mention why so much enthusiasm for voluntary cultural suicide? There are plenty of non-Euro immigrant groups here who have been here for decades and have never trended right...ever. Why do folks think the huge Mexican campesino wave is going to behave like our founders. It's a multicultural fantasy in my view ungrounded in reality.

I have lived the world over...mostly among latinos....and I never met a one of them who wished to be overrun by gringos.

I see public school and media social engineering all over this sentiment. Those anglo freepers here who are on the front lines of this wave do not usually share these altruistic and optimistic views.

We don't need to be overrun by anyone let alone the third world....but it's coming....worse even in Europe.
