The voters were for keeping party primaries. Let's see: to keep three strikes, against gambling, for keeping a lid on taxes and against socialist health care and for curbing frivolous lawsuits against businesses. And these same people turn around to vote for the likes of Kerry and Boxer. I don't understand how they can be conservative in one part of their lives and vote like liberals in another part of it.
I doubt it will be enough. There are a lot of those millionaires who don't care if they pay more taxes. They're too self-adsorbed to know why government programs don't work and they need and benefit from infrastructural improvements (such as transportation projects) too much to care.
WRT to stem cells is also the fact that the "my pleasures at any price" ethos of which the single, promiscuous, abort if you get pregnant lifestyle is but a symptom is so ingrained here that earning a good living off mascerated babies doesn't bother them a bit. They want to buy that cardboard cut-out of a fancy house and watch it appreciate.
There's a deep-seated fear of pro-life politicians. The thing is back in the 70s and 80s the Democrats used to attach measures to ban public funding of abortions to the Medi-Cal program; they were routinely struck down by the courts every year. Times have changed in this respect for the worse.
That's exactly what I was going to post! LOLOL!
No matter what Arnold said. Activists on both sides saw the open primary as a stake in their hearts wielded by corporate weasels.
The point of the article was that Arnold wasn't that much of a factor, with which I agree. I was just demystifying the results a bit.
I don't understand how they can be conservative in one part of their lives and vote like liberals in another part of it.
I explained it just above. "It's all about me." The urban voters are too busy either working or having a good time to recover from working to think about much else.
It's the fear of having their fun taken away, "fun" being defined as whatever mom and dad said was impermissible. With all the crap they tolerate, whether it's a 60 hour week or commuting two hours a day, "fun" is all they have left.
The Governor is an American hero. You're right about democrats. I think he learned that early in his own campaign. You crush the McClintons and then move on and crush the dems. Either way, he's a true terminator.
Bill Jones lost the election, not Arnold. Bill Jones didn't open his wallet. Lay off Arnold.
Compromising and reaching out a healing hand to Democrats is like French-Kissing rattlesnakes.
I'm really, really glad you're on our side!!!! Wish we could find another one like you here in Oregon....Thanks
Sore loserman.
The CAGOP didn't open theirs either. Arnold is the head of the CAGOP.
I thought Coors was in a difficult situation. He ran as an outsider and it showed. Some social conservatives didn't like Coors Brewing Company supporting some functions for the homo community, but I think that really had little effect in the outcome. In the GOP primary, Coors beat Bob Schaffer. Schaffer represented Colorado's 4th District and honored his committment to term limits. I think Schaffer could have beaten Salazar. Scott McInnis is stepping down as Congressman from the 3rd district. I think McInnis could have beaten Salazar also.
I also blame the state GOP for being asleep at the wheel this election cycle. The GOP GOTV effort for Bush-Cheney and Pete Coors was strong in El Paso County. It seemed to have fallen flat statewide. The GOP also lost control of the full legislature for the first time in years.
Lastly. Ken Salazar ran for the Senate and his brother John Salazar ran for the 3rd district House seat. That one-two punch gave the brothers a leg up on two weak GOP candidates.
Good analysis, thank you. I would also think that the changing demographics in Colorado played a pivotal role, as did the fact the Ben Campbell was originally elected as a Democrat and changed parties during his term in the Senate.
Since the rhetoric and thinking of the Dems is forever stuck in the 1960s', I think it's time we gave them the name they deserve; THE MANSON FAMILY. Works for me.
And ya'll said Rnold was dumb! :D
Maybe he'll grow up sooner or later. :P
Political party affiliation in Colorado has been trending GOP in recent years. OTOH. Many people that have moved to Colorado have registered as independents. I really think not having an established GOP candidate in the race for Campbell's seat, gave Salazar a boost among those independents. Bob Schaffer or Scott McInnis would have given Salazar stronger competition. Many of us here in El Paso County wanted our Congressman Joel Hefley to run. Hefley declined and said he'd be able to better serve the state and the GOP, as chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, which oversees the operation and maintenance of all military bases. Colorado Springs is loaded with military bases. If Gov Owens had run, he probably would have garnered 65%-70% fo the vote.
I think he is currently our top prospect to succeed George Bush.
Exactly.
