Good article! My mom's from the Londonderry region ... I hope they keep the Belfast-Londonderry rail link open :-) ... (their recent online poll.)
The successful and upcoming nations of the world, Ireland, Portugal, many former Soviet Bloc nations, Australia, Israel, etc., are aligned with the US. They realize that the American way is the surest route to success and prosperity.
"This makes me proud to be Irish :)'
ME TOO! ME TOO!
I heard the Northern Irish caller to Rush, last week or maybe the week before. He sounded just like my relatives who came from there, his accent I mean. Told about this paper's poll going all for Bush!
GOD SAVE IRELAND!
I remember my grandma, she was quite a character. Took me aside, when I was about 9, to tell me she'd come here for "Freedom" and I mustn't ever forget it. Maryama, I never did. A real libertarian type. Too bad, she was born too soon, she died at 96, but had she just been a wee bit younger she would have been here giving us all fits on FR.
Loved God, loved people, HATED politicians!
There IS some sanity over there, after all
"I would like to thank your newspaper for its kind remarks in the editorial on America's decision to re-elect President Bush.
"What many countries seem to forget is that America is more than just New York City and Los Angeles. There are thousands of miles of rolling hills, forests, streams, farmland, suburbs, waterways and mountains that lie between the coasts. Those citizens, like myself, remember all too well the aftermath of 9/11. We held bake sales, washed cars, donated money and gave blood. We built fire engines to replace the ones lost. We sent food, clothes, rescue workers -- even rescue dogs -- and every item of comfort we could think of. We raised monuments in the memory of our losses, some of them from steel reclaimed from the fallen towers.
"America's heartland remembered. We won't forget, and we won't let it happen again. We voted for the one man who was willing to stand for all the states, and who doesn't forget those who fight alongside us.
"God bless Ireland, and God continues to bless America.
that was lovely. Thank you.
Bumping...
This is interesting. One of the reasons for the "continental" angst over Bush's reelection is the knowledge that a conservative in the White House, who will act to defend the US irregardless of input from the EU, will encourage the UK to do the same. And perhaps, Bush's example will inspire others to rethink their sovereignty and their role in the EU. Bush is reinvigorating the the like-minded around the world.
I have not yet found the link to send them a letter, but I will. My ancestors were also Irish (and Scot but what the hey) but I do see a lot of similarities. I have for many years said I was half Irish and half Scot and 100% Texan.
George W may have not been born and bred Texas, but he grew up here and he has the tenacity of a Texan. Though it has been disparaged throughout the world, W embodies the best of a Texas cowboy. I could go on and on about what that is, but the best of it encompasses the bottom line of it does not matter where ya come from, what matters is what ya do with it. I was very, very pleased to see that the majority of America confirmed and validated my belief that she believed like we do in Texas... and apparently as do the Irish.
Thanks ... neat story! I hope our Ulster Irish brethren will see that the principles of the Declaration of Independence are the universal laws for a successful nation, and that they'll stand up for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and for the Consent of the Governed. Everyone knows what works, now, and there's no excuse for putting up with socialists or totalitarians.
I'm not sure your average Newsletter reader would refer to themselves as Irish! (I am one of them!)
Point is made though.
"Everyone knows what works, now,..."
Yes, I kinda think they do. Except me, I don't know how my post got up with no paragraphs! I'm so ashamed, paragraphs are our friends!
Thanks for struggling through my mangled post!
Happens to me sometimes, especially when I'm holding a baby. You miss your shift key, and everything's a mess!
I, too, am proud of my Irish roots way back in the mists of time.
Thank God for the Belfast Newsletter, the first hint of sanity I've seen coming out of Europe!
The elite media still doesn't get it. They are only adding to their own demise with gross assumptions of middle America. I resent their insipid analysis that middle America is not aware of the real issues in the United States. People chose President Bush because he will better defend the United States. The implication that the red states are homophobic is ridiculous.
A nice reply!
A huge chunk of America is half Irish and half Scot.
They fail to hear the wisdom of Solomon in Ecclesiastes 1:9 - "The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun."
Mankind has faced the same problems since Adam and Eve.
It doesn't take any new, "Progressive", thinking to understand the solutions.
Conservatives rely on our core values, and these have been handed down from generation to generation since God put us on this earth.
i wish ANY interviewer would point out to a liberal that says "progressive" that that is the term Lenin and other Communists use for their movement.
