DRAMA BEHIND KERRY DECISION
New York Post ^ | 11/04/04 | STEFAN C. FRIEDMAN

Posted on 11/03/2004 11:29:07 PM PST by kattracks

BOSTON — Three hours after he woke up in his 19th-century Federalist townhouse on Louisbourg Square, Sen. John Kerry was told his lifelong dream to become the president of the United States had died in Columbus, Ohio.

The news came in a phone call from Mary Beth Cahill, Ted Kennedy's hard-nosed chief-of-staff, who took over Kerry's floundering campaign in the primaries, when all but his most loyal supporters had written him off.

[snip]

But there was no way around it — there were just too many votes for Bush on the ballots being counted in the statehouse in Columbus.

[snip]

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi — who had traveled extensively with Kerry— sat behind the hustings at the Copley event with his head in his hands.

"Backstage was like a funeral," recalled one source.

Shortly before 3 a.m., Kerry operatives said the campaign would go dark for the night.

Kerry awoke four hours later — and immediately went back to work. At his request, Democratic lawyers in Ohio and Washington prepared to go to court in the Buckeye State to challenge the counting procedure.

But then it became clear the numbers were overwhelming. The Democrats determined that their earlier estimate that 250,000 provisional ballots had not been counted was extremely optimistic.

[snip]

Following the speech, the frustration of Kerry's daughters, who teared up during the concession after tirelessly stumping for their father, exploded backstage in a diatribe full of F-words.

[snip]

He still has four more years left in his current Senate term — and aides are not surprised that he's eager to get back to work.

"He instantly made the decision that he didn't want to put the country through any lengthy litigation," Cahill said later. "To go forward [with a lawsuit] in a time of war — that was something he didn't want to do."

Hmmmm! Sure this was Kerry?

There you have it. Integrity. Integrity. Integrity.

Thank goodness they lost. Good riddance!

His inability to fire people, his unremarkable 20 yr Senate record, his apparent ceaseless seeking of advice, his flip-flops, his impossible "global test" thinking suggests that he's all in his head, distracted by all those little debate points. His core is this looping intellection exercise amounting to the proverbial "mental masturb*tion."

He seems like a tormented soul. I think I pity him. Kerry did have a nice concession statement about our elections having no losers because the next day we all wake up Americans.

Concession was the bravest, most heroic thing Kerry's ever done.

"It was Kerry himself who managed to stay the most composed in his hour of defeat. "

I think this guy was a little relieved he didn't win. He probably knew he couldn't handle the pressures that being the "Leader of the Free World" entails.

That's not intended as a rip. How many people do you know that could handle what our President has over the last four years?

Edwards "introduction" of Kerry at the concession raised the hair on my neck. It had an air of petulance about it. I confess the tone raised fears the MSM had gotten it wrong and a Gore-style retraction was coming.

Sen Edwards is snake-oil salesman, not a statesman. He has all the gravitas of helium balloon. I seriously hope the national Democrat Party marginalizes him and he returns to channeling dead babies and fluffing his silky locks in private legal practice.

Kerry lost ohio because he OUTSOURCED his GOTV efforts to 527 groups like moveon.org

HAHAHA! What a wonderful observation of irony!

Both of Kerry's daughter are a couple of useless shluubs. This one couldn't even take 4th place in a wet t shirt contest.

Remember when they tried to "suuuuush" people at the awards show a couple of months back? Treating the crowd like they were 6 year olds when they didn't want to be forced to listen to a political sales pitch. These pathetic Kerry-Kids are soon to be completely forgotten, thrown on the ash heap except for this pic, which will live on in the internet forever. What a memorial.

in a diatribe full of F-words.this is because the Thurston JF'nK Howell III's viewed the Presidency as a birthright. It is just one great big enormous responsibility that you do out of love of god and country and not because you are in it for yourself. Bush knows that. His daughters would love a little less publicity and public exposure. This is what comes from putting the Hollywood crowd in charge of your campaign.

I remember some TV network interviewing him on 9/11. Jon could see the burning towers' smoke from his house in New Jersey. Amazing...

Doing what? Based on his accomplishments in the Senate I guess that means there's a bill pending proclaiming the Oak as the national tree.

Now, now, he might actually be starting some significant work, like drafting a bill to force the Catholic Church to recognize the sacrament of partial-birth abortion, or something equally weighty...

I saw bits of Kerry's concession speech and was impressed that for the first time he actually acted and looked human. And I dare say it, actually a bit likable. If he acted like that during the campaign he might have had a chance, God forbid.
