These people make me want to barf. Who do they think they are...because they live in NYC that they are SMARTER than a midwesterner? That a midwesterner believes everything someone tells them? What condescending snobs.
Most NYers would kill to have my house in New York City and I'm the dumb one? But Chicago is on that same Island. Bush beat Kerry by 300,000 votes outside of Cook County.

I am reminded of the famous New Yorker cartoon map of the world as seen by a New Yorker. The entire world is Manhattan with a little strip west of the Hudson disappearing to the Pacific Ocean. Flyover country doesn't exist.
In New York it's mind over matter:
"I don't mind and you don't matter".

When they come down here "on holiday" we treat them as we would wish to be treated, they mistake our manners for simplemindedness.
I took their East Coast degree back to the Midwest.
Great, 25 year marriage (she taught me everything), great kids, great job, lots of friends (not cocooned) and spiritual joy.
No debt, no drugs, no disease (!)

From my experience as a student from Kansas City going to school on Long Island (SUNY @ Stony Brook), Yes, they DO think that they're smarter than us. The certainly believe that they're better than us!
