Because the Philly suburbs were going for Kerry and Specter was hoping by attaching his name to Kerry he would garner more votes which he sorely needed.

He is a dirty campaigner.

He apparently has, because I doubt you can name any of the hundreds of judges he's nominated that hasn't been stellar.

So, yes, that is the intelligent approach.

Abortion wasn't even an issue in this election, except in the fine print. Gay marriage was. Iraq was. Terrorism was. Abortion wasn't and the Supreme Court wasn't.

You can make the argument that many voters felt that was their main issue, and that's probably true. But that's not what this election turned on. It was almost never discussed during the campaign by either side.

I just sent my email to Sen Frist urging him to make certain that Specter doesn't become Chair of the Judiciary!

The audacity of that jerk to give *MY* President an ultimatum! *I* didn't vote for Specter, (I live in another state) and while I respect the fine folks of PA being able to choose their Senator, I don't believe that means that he should be able to tell our Pres what to do! Pres Bush can nominate anyone he d4mn well pleases!

my e-mail

Dear Senator Frist,
With alarming speed, Arlen Spector has signaled he will not, as chairman of the Senate Judiciary
Committee, support the nomination of conservative pro-life judges.

Sir, many of people who voted to re-elect President Bush, did so because of near certain possibility of
appointing at least two supreme court justices. If the republican party does not give heed to the primary
concern of these votes we will walk away from the party. This is not a threat, but a certain inevitability, as
we see that the republicans will not deliver, when it is most easy to deliver, on our most pressing concerns.

Arlen does not have to be chairman, and we do not have to have him in the party to maintain a majority.
Please be bold. REMOVE Spector. Please.

Thank you for your time,

Re your #142:

"...Chances are very good he won't, but if he does get it, he will be told he will be yanked if he doesn't get with the program."

I really wish that I could share your optimism, Mabel K.

But we have 4 years of pretty consistant Republican gutlessness as a precident, and unless we see some major attitude adjustment from the White House on down, I'm inclined to expect things to be pretty much status quo ad infinitum, despite all the laudable rhetoric and inspiring bloviation.

And the gonads of our illustrious "Leadership" will remain securely in Hillary's little "Lock-Box"... which I think she keeps right next to that big stack of FBI dossiers on them and every other pubbie who might get in her way.

Remember those?

Did anyone ever even ask her to return any of those stolen files, by the way?

Uh Huh; Didn't think so.

Dream on, then.

Citing the exit polls that were so wildly wrong isn't really very persuasive. They were garbage.

I'll still concede your original point. The Religious Right made a huge difference, maybe the deciding difference, by showing up at the polls yesterday.

I think it they did so regarding gay marriage which was on the ballot, as opposed to abortion, which wasn't.

We were vindicated because he's done many of the things we predicted today and during the campaign for the general election.

I never said, and neither did any of those making the same arguments say, that we thought he wouldn't win. Quite the contrary. We did however, discuss a strategy for his defeat but unfortunately couldn't sway enough people to employ the strategy.

Bush and Santorum backed this RINO, Spector, instead of Toomey who lost; Spector won and the very next day he was bashing President Bush.

Done.
Also contacted 4 Republican senators (2 KS, 2 MO) and asked them to talk to Frist. Don't know if they'll see it, but it was worth a try.

Not only do we need to stop Spector from becoming Chairman of the Judiciary, we need to bounce this guy out of office. Almost happened last time.
