I should have put Allen on the list. Too bad he's not from a true swing state. But in all respects, you're right. He would be a good candidate, many strengths and at least 6 incoming GOP senators are already gonna like him a whole lot!
Don't forget though that Phil Gramm had that job at NRSC in 1994 and he didn't even make it to the NH primary in 1996, so it's hardly a silver bullet.
