...My state, The People's Republic of Maryland, went red in 90% counties. Unfortunately the 10% Blues pulled the whole state down :-(

Hmmm, blame Baltimore I'll bet.

I figure population centers are the big contributors to the 'Islands of blue in a sea of red' phenomena... particularly if said population is comprised of sexual/ethnic minorities or it's a 'university' town.

That's why this county map looks so much more rosy than the electoral (state by state) map.

I searched the whole thread to see if any one picked up on this. What we are seeing is a urban/rural divide in this map.
