Let Obama's shining light lead the way for us all
Chicago Sun Times ^ | November 3, 2004 | Mary Mitchell

I have been gently reminded that a politician will break your heart. And Lord knows, I've had my heart broken more times than I care to remember. So, many of us are hoping. No, we are praying that Sen. Barack Obama will prove to be a new breed of politician.

We've had our fill of charlatans. They steal your heart with their charisma only to betray you with their chicanery.

As only the third African American to go to the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction, we know Obama will go to Washington carrying a heavy burden. He will not just be the Illinois senator representing a diverse population, he will be the only man in the Senate that African Americans can look to as one of their own.

Born to a woman from Kansas and a man from Kenya, Obama never ran from his black ancestry. We loved him for that.

He and his wife, Michelle, and their two children, represent an image seen too seldom in the national spotlight -- an intact, loving, black family.

As one of my single sisters put it, it wasn't Obama's electrifying speech at the Democratic National Convention that moved her.

It was the image of the coffee complexioned, smartly dressed Michelle Obama on the platform, at his side waving at the crowd.

Brown sugar sister

Black women needed that moment. That this Harvard-educated biracial man, who was raised in a white family, chose a brown sugar sister to marry gave black women all over this country a boost.

The Obamas are now the African-American First Family.

If you mean do I look on Obama as the savior of the party, no. I think it shows the superficiality of the party and the Media to glamorize a pretty boy like him.

That said, I'm content to have the dems lionize a hollow shell with a pleasing exterior. The less he has to work, the less substance he shows, the better IMHO.

If/when Obama has to sell himself to the American people, I want him to be onproven, untested, and believing in his own invincibility. He'll be just as shocked as his supporters when he falls.

If good looks was all it takes to be a successful candidate, Edwards would have been on the top of the ticket and in the WH today.

Great. So I'm a troll for pointing out the obvious about Keyes.

I think I'm going to cry now and run to my momma.

His name is only one letter away from being Osama. His positions are left of Kerry, and we must expose him and attack him early and often. We must make sure this guy never goes higher than senator. He is frightening.

"Perhaps, just perhaps, you should entertain the idea that there are factors beyond "tint" that influence successful men to pursue and marry the women they are with"

Case in point: queer McGreevey and most of closeted Hollywood and their arranged PR marriages - Yack!

If Obama was a republican, they would indeed call him an Uncle Tom. Why? Because RATS are racist bigots.

Let Obama's shining light lead the way for us all

The only "light" coming from Obama is self generated methane that has reached it's combustion temp.

Well, lets see. In Illinois, we have Dick Durbinladen, Babama Osama, Rod Bagoshi* and King Richie the Gunless. It's definitely time for a change here. We need to do something now for 2006 and 2008.

I heard water cooler talk that the GOP has Illinois in their sights. geographically, Keyes won the whole state except for Chicago.

That would be welcome news. There is a lot of work to do here, but it is possible to change Illinois into a red state.

Chicago voters need to understand the benefits a Republican administration can bring to them, and also how they have been ripped off all these years. Daley's scandals and excessive taxation remedies, plus his obscene gun laws, should help.

That's what I look for in a candidate. A good Anglo sounding name! Folks this 'Islamic mole' stuff sounds like something even Alan Keyes wouldn't say at his most floridly impolitic. BO was raised in a Protestant environment his whole life and there's no reason to think he's a Muslim. His mother is a direct descendant of Jefferson Davis!
