Some have complained that Bush himself didn't stand up to the disgraceful and treasonous actions and words of Kerry. They have said if it wasn't for the SwiftVets, Bush would have lost, as if that were a criticism of Bush.

To that I say two things:

1. That would be like a football fan blaming the quarterback for not doing the blocking, leaving it up to his line. This is a team sport, and Bush knows how to play on, and lead, a team.

   Thanks, line. Some damn fine blocking and tackling there.

   Few nations are blessed to be as well served as the Vietnam Vets have served America; twice now.

2. The long shadow cast over America by the treasons that cost her defeat in Vietnam, the unnecessary loss of many of our finest, and the lives of millions of innocents, has been in good part lifted,

   Perhaps it was destiny that one of the two most public figures of the anti-war movement has now gone down to nationwide defeat, because we didn't trust him to lead us in war.
