EXIT-POLL OUTRAGE
New York Post ^ | 11/03/04 | DICK MORRIS

Posted on 11/03/2004 1:35:07 AM PST by kattracks

IN the end, George W. Bush won the elec tion. But the net works were afraid to report that fact to us because their exit polls showed Kerry winning. Conditioned to believe that exit polls could never be wrong, the news anchors were left stuttering and stammering.

[snip]Like the network anchors on election night, I concluded that Kerry would win in a walk.

But then the returns came in. In state after state, it became clear that Bush was running ahead of his performance in 2000: first, Kentucky, three points better, then Indiana, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia, all for Bush by more than he had in 2000.

Was Bush just piling up votes in his base states? Then Massachusetts came in. Bush lost Massachusetts with 37 percent of the vote — a wipeout — but he had lost the Bay State in 2000 getting only 32 percent of the vote.

That Bush ran better in Kerry's home state than he did in 2000 when he opposed a Tennessean gave me a clear sense that Bush was going to win.

Why did the exit polls show such a Democratic win when the Republicans were ahead all along? Why did they bias the coverage in the favor of the Democrats when Bush was winning from the beginning? Exit polls are almost impossible to get wrong this way. They are based on interviews with voters as they leave the polling places having just cast their ballots.

[snip]

But these exit polls were wrong. And the fact that they were so totally, disastrously wrong is a national scandal. There should be a national investigation to unearth the story behind the bias.

ISN'T THIS FANTASTIC?! [John Podhoretz]
The media won't call it, even though it's happened. They're graceless. So is Kerry. They are tying themselves to this depressing loser. It's everything I ever wanted.

He makes a number of good points. This is two presidential elections in a row that exit polling has been way off...if it was an honest mistake in 2000, the press had plenty of time to correct the problem for 2004.

Some of us here called it this afternoon - the MSM "consortium" that handled the exit-poll data were fudging to dispirit the GOP voters before poll closing.

I knew that W had it in the bag when I saw OUR Evil genius Karl Rove in the goofy hunting outfit and hat. We'll have to wait a few years for his memoirs, but it will be worth it.

The msm damned well isn't going to give Bush his Nov 3 headline.

But that doesn't change anything.

Exit poll distortion seems like a plausible scenario, to discourage Republican voters from the very start of this election day.

Who conducts this activity? The old media? Dick Morris calls it a "scandal."

After 2000 the old vote counting organization bit the dust.

How about a post-election lawsuit by the RNC against each news outfit, which conducted the exit polls?

Sue for big money damages. Threaten revocation of FCC broadcast RIGHTS.

Michael Medved called it right. The exit polls released in mid-afternoon were a conspiracy to disuade voters from voting for the rest of the day.

Yeterday evening I was mad that Brit Hume seemed so disspointed in the exit polls being wrong. Now I think it was propably his concern with journalistic integrity.

The exit polls are bad because many of us lied to the pollsters upon leaving the polling places.
I lie to any questioner except the police. Just don't like answering questions especially from news folks.

The best part is, Bush doesn't *care* whether or not they give him a "Headline".

"Headlines" are so far down his agenda, you' can't even see them with a telescope.

This is a *great* President we're looking at, people. We haven't had one like this since Truman. And I say that, even though I thoroughly disapprove of some of the things he's done.

It takes a deliberate act of fraud and bias to get an exit poll wrong.
