Houston Ship Channel Closed After Chemical Accident DEER PARK, Texas -- The Houston Ship Channel was closed for several hours Saturday after a nearby chemical plant accidentally released nitric acid vapor, U.S. Coast Guard officials said. The release happened at a facility in Deer Park owned by Texas Molecular, which provides waste management and transportation services as well as specialized chemical manufacturing, recovery and processing services. It was not immediately known how the release happened. A spokesman for Texas Molecular, based in the Houston suburb of Deer Park, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment. .....excerpt.....
