More on Shell Oil in Texas (inland)

South Texas

Shell drilled its first wells in South Texas in 1953, in the Rincon, LaCopita and Javelina fields located west of McAllen. Production still flows from these fields.

Shell Exploration & Production Company’s South Texas Asset produces approximately 315 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and more than 5,000 barrels of condensate per day, from approximately 250 wells. SEPCo's net gas available for sale for 2002 was 233 MMCF/D, with 3,800 net barrels of condensate.

There are six fields in the McAllen Unit (North Rincon, LaCopita, Javelina, McAllen Ranch, Schmidt and Cadre) and three fields in the Wilcox Unit (Rosita – operated by EOG Resources, Rosita East and Fandango).

McAllen is also close to the Gulf of Mexico, near Brownsville.
