It's not a coup.
When the history of the last year is written, the extraordinary, coordinated campaign by the "entertainment industry" (including, but not limited to, the MSM) to defeat a sitting President will make an amazing story.
Their power over consumer behavior through the sewer of television, film, and pop media had them convinced that they are the new Medicis-no one can be Pope without their approval.
They were wrong.
But their power HAS increased exponentially since 1980, and they will be right back to work tomorrow, rolling out new MTV channels, new depressing and cynical "children's books", new fake news, new "stars" threatening to move to Europe, new mind control programs in public schools.
They don't ever "lose"-they just fail to win.
They follow the Brezhnev doctrine-the armies of socialism only march in one direction.
If we wait to the Fall of 2007 to rev up again, they will be closer to victory next time.
The cultural Left must be confronted again and again. The war over President Bush's FOUR SUPREME COURT NOMINEES will be like nothing this country has ever seen.
Stay frosty, FRiends-we've won a battle, but the war is still in doubt.
GREAT post!
Democrats have nobody but themselves to blame.
Faced with a difficult war, President Bush has made difficult, unpopular decisions that he resolutely and honestly believed at the time were the correct ones. Even his enemies must give him that much.
Accordingly, a politically vulnerable CinC stood accountable, shortcomings and all, and made his case as best he could directly to the American people. The Democrats could have cleaned his clock, IMO, had they shown him the basic decency and respect due a wartime CinC, and nominated a centrist, Mark Warner-type Southern Governor who would not have polarized the country and would have cherry-picked VA, West VA, and NC from Dubya's sea of red.
It is a battle we must fight everyday...Great post Jim, thank you.
