Voted this afternoon in Highlands County. I rushed to the polls after a golf tournament, and got right in. By the time I finished marking the bubbles, there were at least ten people waiting in line for a booth, and each alpha grouping at the sign-in table was 3 deep. I recognized several voters as they were in the same golf tournament.
The county went for Bush in 2000, but every Democrat I knew was there I think. This was obviously a very heavy turnout in this precinct.
Just got back from voting - got to the precinct at 6pm. There were a lot of people there, the parking lot was full. I waited only about 10-15 minutes, because they had a lot of machines. One girl outside trying to hand out "voter's rights" cards. There were no takers when I was there. Saw my neighbors there doing their civic duty also - they are Bush supporters as well.
Incidently, my son's middle school voted today, and the results were Bush-145, Kerry-23 and "other"-19. This is indicative, I think, of their parent's voting habits, and it's encouraging - Bush with a slam dunk! (I'm in SW Florida - Lee County)
Martinez/Castor Senate race, both sides calling in lawyers!
Numbers do not call for recount, but Betty Castor is having a hissy fit.
