The New York Times last Monday beat 60 Minutes to the "missing" explosives story, so CBS couldn't air that last-minute hit on President Bush 36 hours before the election. On Sunday it replaced that planned story with another, "In Harm's Way," about problems in Iraq: Deaths and injuries caused to servicemen by the lack of armor on Humvees, as well as issues such as the lack of radios for troops.
The story was not explicitly pegged to deriding Bush's conduct of the war, but Steve Kroft blamed the lack of armor on how "Pentagon war planners didn't anticipate a long, bloody insurgency." Kroft then brought up the media's favorite Bush-bashing lodestone: "But 18 months after President Bush declared an end of major combat, the Pentagon is still struggling to provide equipment needed to fight the war." Kroft blamed the equipment inadequacies on pork barrel spending and John McCain tied that back to a Bush policy: "I don't think that this war has truly come home to the Congress of the United States. This is the first time in history we've cut taxes during a war."
I hear tell that Bush is responsible for the eventual heat death of the Universe. Kerry, on the other hand, helped God with the Big Bang. /sarcasm off
Have you no shame Mr. Rather? Have you no shame sir?
I'm sorry, but does anyone really watch 60 minutes any more?
That show "jumped the shark" eons ago...
I guess it's only "Clinton's Military" when we're victorious.
Or the big fat subsidies Daschle is laways trying to get for his constituency.
Or all the money wasted hiring useless liberals to work at the pentagon and undermine the war effort or in times past, to give liberal female interns something to do when Bubba wasn't in the mood. Etc, etc...
I thought that Goebbels committed suicide in Hitler's bunker in Berlin in '45, but as it turns out he's actually been running CBS News. I also thought that Stalin died in his bed in '53, but he apparently writes copy for them.
Actually most of those "news magazine" tv shows have gone dead. They are basically shills for lawyers with a good sense of PR over getting some free publicity for their firm and their clients "grievance".
---Deaths and injuries caused to servicemen by the lack of armor on Humvees, as well as issues such as the lack of radios for troops.---
Let's see. Humvees were never ment to be armored in the first place and we always had plenty of radios they just never worked very well. This all dates back to the dark ages, well before the Presidency of GWB. This is just a bunch of crap from partisan hacks that never served a day in their miserable lives.
CBS blow it out your A**. We caught you more than once. My old elementary school mimeographed rag had more credibility than you.
This whole situation coulds be alleviated by judicious use of midnight basketball.
Yeah...whatever happened to my midnight basketball?
I want my midnight basketball I want my midnight basketball
(Pounding table and stamping feet)
Of course the 8 years of malaise prior to the current administration had absolutley NOTHING to do with the lack of prepardness of our armed forces . . .
Of course not. Any funds saved from the military were "invested." (Clinton's early use of "investment" as a euphemism for new government programs was most Orwellian.)
