New NRSC poll gives her a 5-point lead:

John McLaughlin of McLaughlin & Associates conducted a three-day roll of 500 likely Alaska voters (MOE: +/- 4.5%) on Thursday and Friday, October 28th & 29th, and Sunday, October 31st, for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). The key findings are as follows:

1. The U.S. Senate head-to-head shows Senator Lisa Murkowski opening up a five-point lead over former Governor Tony Knowles:

“If the election for U.S. Senate in Alaska were held today, and the candidates were Tony Knowles, the Democrat candidate, and Lisa Murkowski, the Republican candidate, for whom would you vote?”

Murkowski 48.0%

Knowles 42.6%

Undecided 6.6%

2. U.S. Senate favorables/unfavorables:

Murkowski Knowles

Favorable 52.4% 51.0%

Unfavorable 39.0% 41.8%

Why so surprised? This race has always been close.

If true, that's great news.

But I have to call it into question because it's an NRSC commissioned poll.

I'd need to see another poll that corroborates McLaughlin's numbers.

Told you guys. 'member? 'member what I said? I said that Bush going in the tank after debate #1 MAY have been deliberate as a means to keep the DNC/527 $$$$ nailed to Kerry's hopeless campaign by giving it hope. This meant that the senate candidates did NOT get this $$$.

I further said that on Nov. 3, we are all gonna be pretty upset with the Republican Parties in WA, NV, IL, AR, and CA for not having better senate candidates, because we COULD have gotten the magic 60 votes.

It'd be great if she escapes.

I've always felt Bush's coattails were going to drag her across the finish line regardless. These numbers look conducive for a solid Murkowski victory.

We just had about a foot of snow today in Anchorage. It takes a lot to keep us in though. I will be driving all day in my 4X4...

I'm in Anchorage, also, and I hope nobody yells at me for saying this, but I won't be surprised if Knowles pulls ahead of Murkowski. This state is really not happy with her father, Frank, the governor, nor with how she got her job.

It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

You're right there has been bad press here for her. and tony has been out big. But I think she has turned it on in the last few weeks her. That and with the Mr.Bush on the ticket I think she has a good chance.

Good for you. Knowles seems like a good guy, but Dems would block ANWR and every agenda for Alaska.
