NEW SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello everyone, and thanks for your wonderful show of support since my announcement on Tuesday. I can't tell you how much your e-mails have meant to me and my family. I can now tell you that starting on Monday I will be joining WWRL Radio, 1600 on the AM dial. Karen Hunter and I will be co-hosting the WWRL Morning Show Monday -Friday from 6-10AM. Karen has been at the station for a couple of years already. In addition, she is a college Professor and a former columnist for the New York Daily News. She is a registered Republican, but we seem to disagree on most issues. You can also hear live streaming of the show by coming to my web-site and clicking the "listen live" link. Or go straight to www.wwrl1600.com and listen live that way.

I need all of you to spread the word. That will be the hardest part. Getting people in the boroughs, New Jersey, Long Island and Westchester and beyond to know that we exist. I am confident that once they tune in, they won't want to tune out.

That's it for now. Once again, thanks, and spread the word. Stay safe.

Malzberg Debuts as WWRL Morning Host

After 25-years at WABC Radio in New York, NewsMax.com contributor Steve Malzberg starts Monday as drive-time morning host on New York's WWRL 1600 AM.

The conservative stalwart teams up with New York Daily News columnist and Al Sharpton biographer Karen Hunter - a radio pairing that's sure to provoke fireworks.

"The addition of Steve to the ‘RL family represents a next step in ‘RL’s goal of becoming a listening post and sounding board for the New York market. " WWRL program director Rennie Bishop said Friday. "The morning show will continue its upbeat urban talk format bringing fresh, diverse and balanced viewpoints to the audience."

And with Malzberg on board, WWRL is likely to be making some news. Known as one of the most prolific newsbreakers at WABC, his interviews were regularly covered by the New York Post and Daily News.

Months before anyone had ever heard of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, for instance, Malzberg got word they were organizing from Vietnam veterans expert B.G. Burkett, and gave his audience a sneak preview on what turned out to be the most politically significant story of the presidential campaign.

When media mogul Steve Brill announced that Sen. Hillary Clinton had fudged records of her meetings with 9/11 families, he dropped the bombshell in an interview with Malzberg.

When firebrand New York City councilman and would-be mayor Charles Barron explained that it was merely "black hyperbole" when he told an audience he wanted to "slap" a white person for his own mental health, it was because Malzberg had him cornered.

And the conservative talker was the only interviewer to confront Clinton National Security Advisor Sandy Berger about his former boss's admission that he turned down a chance to arrest Osama bin Laden - more than a year before the 9/11 Commission put the same question to Clinton himself.

Malzberg's confrontational style makes him unique in his industry. He's willing to apply the rhetorical rubber hose to guests - but somehow manages not to alienate them. So Democrat and Republican newsmakers return time and again to his microphone to break stories.

The veteran talker promises to keep the excitement going at his new home, explaining Friday, "Karen Hunter and I disagree on most major issues, and we plan to present those disagreements in a very passionate, informative and entertaining way. . . When folks tune in...they won't want to tune out."

I hope Malzberg comes down to South Florida and replaces the Chucky Cheese Comedian, Glenn Beck, in the 9 AM to Noon slot on WIOD (610 AM) Radio.

Glenn Beck tries to be a combination of Phil Hendry, Art Bell, and Gallagher. And it just doesn't work.

Maybe Steve got tired of the overnight schedule. He's a hardworking guy who really does his homework, and I hope he made the right decision to leave WABC. I won't be able to get this station on my radio.

An article in the New York Post today said that Steve was fired from WABC.

I don't know if that is true or not.

Wish I knew because for the most part Steve is hated in the black community.

I am very sorry for him.

>>I am very sorry for him.<<

So am I. Steve is a great talk show host and deserves much better than this. After 23 years of loyalty, WABC fires him!! I'm in NJ but I can't get 1600 so I listened on the net for about 25 minutes and couldn't stand anymore. The co-host was very rude and disrespectful and I felt they treated Steve as their "conservative whipping boy". As for WABC, I only listened to Rush and Steve and I can get Rush on other stations. Don't know if it will help, but I'm going to call WOR and tell them they're missing a golden opportunity, especially since Bob Grant is way up in years.

Day Two: Co-host has lightened up a fraction on Steve; claims she never heard him on his former show.

Sad. I liked Malzberg, but I won't be listening to him with a co-host on WWRL.

art bell.......ugh

Art's only on the weekends. The weeknight host doesn't generally ring the steeple bells with me, so I've all but
stopped listening during the week.

FWIW, I just got XM radio and have been listening to OTR and current radio theatre falling off to sleep.

WWRL Radio, 1600

When I was in high school, the "Voice of Harlem". Things change. I remember every Sunday night in the late 60's they had Reverend Ike, who informed us that "God doesn't want your one dollar bill. God doesn't want your five, your ten. He doesn't want your twenty. God wants your fifty, your hunder (sic) dollar bill." Conveniently, the Almighty had arranged a mail drop at the Abyssinian Baptist Church, on Broadway in Harlem. Not to worry, however. For whatsoever you giveth the Lord, shall be returned sevenfold. That means that if you send in $50 bucks to Rev. Ike, you'll hit the numbers for $350 (some day). As Dave Barry says, I can't make this stuff up.

I was so hoping that Steve would be on WOR. They have useless programming most of the time and Steve would be a wonderful asset.

First report in the Daily News was that Steve resigned and that article was on Steve's website.

NYPost, for what it's worth, reported that Steve was fired.

Steve has a website......Malzbergtalk.com

I remember the "Make Believe Ballroom".

Gracelessly aged that three letter station.

I think Steve wanted the time to spend with his family. As I understand it, Steve left on his own accord. He will be missed. I loved his Sunday morning sound bites.
